From Rihanna’s onstage fan romps to boob-flashing stunts… the raunchy pop icons who pushed EVERY boundary

Strutting on stage in a skimpy outfit, Sabrina Carpenter knows all eyes will be on her as she sings hit after hit.

The pop star, 25, has come under fire for her sexualised outfits from music powerhouses Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman.

In an exclusive interview with The Sun, Matt, 68, said: “Pop music, and pop videos in particular, have become much more sexualized than they were in the Eighties – overtly, for better or for worse.”

Pete, 78, added: “And it’s incredibly strange considering women’s rights are so protected now.

“Seeing Sabrina Carpenter dressed as a girl is quite offensive. She doesn’t need it.”

But former Disney star Sabrina isn’t half as raunchy as some of the female stars she followed.

As she opts for skimpy dresses and simulates lively performances on stage, it’s all in the glorious tradition of using sex to boost sales.

Sun looks back on the antics of other singers who would make Sabrina blush with their antics.

Katy Perry

When 40-year-old Katy released her seventh album, she used it as an opportunity to change her image.

The pop princess, who has been pretty PG for most of her career, gave a sexually charged performance at the 2024 VMAs.

Katy sang I’m His He’s Mine with Doechii and the two performers sexually squirmed with each other.

Both women paused in various provocative positions during the sexually charged performance.

They also acted out a lesbian sexual act, which horrified the viewers.

Rihanna is the best-selling female artist of the 21st century according to Guinness World Records, and this can be partially attributed to her controversial performance choices.

The 36-year-old singer shocked the world with her video for the hit single S&M in 2010.

The overtly sexual video is banned in 11 countries, and in America, YouTube required proof that someone was 18 before they could watch it.

Rihanna didn’t stop there with her antics – she even dragged fans on stage during the tour to simulate sex with them.

One of the chosen was a 60-year-old man.

She continued her theme of faking sex on stage in a performance with Drake at the 2016 Brits.

The singer twerked and grinded on the rapper as they performed.

Swedish singer Tove, 37, isn’t afraid to flash her parts during her performance to make sure everyone is paying attention.

In 2017, she showed off her breasts at various festivals, the first of which was Coachella in California.

Explaining her flashing habit, she told MTV News: “I started by just showing a little bit of my tits or being sassy and everyone was so excited, and then one night I just did it.

“I thought ‘Why can’t I do it? I should do it if I want to and everyone is so excited and a lot of girls and guys are now flashing me and taking my clothes off. It gets really hot and I like that.’”

She added: “I hate it when someone tells me I can’t do something because I’m a girl, then I’ll do it twice as hard.”

In 2023, she made the decision that instead of baring her assets, she would wear a nude bodysuit with fake nipples in the front.

Grammy nominee Tove then performed provocative dance moves during a concert in Nashville.

It sure makes Sabrina and the other stars look decently dressed.

In the infamous Bangerz era, Miley, 32, was happy to fake sex acts with anything and everything she could get her hands on.

In an infamous performance at London’s GAY club in 2014, she was seen riding an inflatable penis and then acting out sex acts with inflatable dolls.

The year before, she made headlines for her provocative performance at the VMAs with Robin Thicke, where she suggestively stuck her tongue out at him and twerked on his crotch while bending down.

She also won legions of fans for her Wrecking Ball video in which she was seen riding naked, but Miley doesn’t have fond memories of the video.

What Stock Aitken Waterman said about Sabrina

MUSIC industry titans Stock Aitken Waterman have slammed Sabrina Carpenter and other modern stars for being overly sexual.

The men have 13 number 1 singles and 250 million records sold worldwide, and have written some of the world’s most famous songs.

They don’t like Sarbin because of her skimpy clothes and flirtatious lyrics.

The hitmakers even suggested that the Espresso singer was setting back the women’s rights movement.

She doesn’t need it.

“She’s got great talent and yet across the industry, these girls go out as little as possible because they know they’re bringing young guys to their websites.

“Go wait, we couldn’t have done that 30 years ago.

“They would kill us if we did half of what they are doing now. Madonna was the only person who ever came close to that image.”

Agreeing with them, Mike, 73, said: “They won all their freedoms and their rights, women.

“They fought for everything they had, and now they’re throwing it away, that’s how I would look at it.”

Pete added: “It’s just crazy. If you want to be respected, don’t go out in underwear.”

“I will never live like that. I will always be the naked girl at the wrecking ball,” she said on the Zach Sang Show.

“I should have thought how long it would have to follow me around. It’s my worst nightmare, that they play at my funeral.”

In an interview with Vogue, she admitted that she carried “a lot of guilt and shame” over her wild behavior and felt she was “harshly judged”.

Although she’s less flamboyant now, she still chooses sexy outfits to perform and has no problem embracing her sexuality in a toned-down way.

Cardi B wasn’t shy in the wardrobe department for the WAP video

American actress Cardi, 32, is no shortage of violets when it comes to incredibly sexualized performances.

Her 2020 collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion for WAP left fans shocked by the number of sex acts they simulated.

They are also seen writhing together on the floor, surrounded by snakes.

It was not only the music video that left people shocked, but also the explicit and graphic content of the lyrics.

It has received praise for its sex-positive message and female empowerment.

To this day, it is the most sexually explicit song to ever top the US charts.

And Cardi hasn’t toned it down since. For her single Like What, she was seen walking around the mansion in a skimpy bikini.

She was also filmed sexually writhing on the floor and bed.

And she hasn’t slowed down in any way since she turned 60.

On her Madame X tour between 2019 and 2020, she pretended to perform a sexual act on herself while performing on stage.

This shocked fans on the first night of her tour. She went on to say, “I think it’s important that women have the right to decide what to do with their bodies.”

She also joked that she found one of the dancers on the dating app Grindr.

The star continues to wear very revealing outfits for performances and posts on her Instagram.

In 2022, she had a very raunchy performance with rapper Tokisch.

At one point, the rapper acted out by lashing out at Madonna, and then the two passionately kissed at the end of the performance.

Rapper Nicki, 42, isn’t afraid to write sexually explicit lyrics and even bring real sex toys on stage.

Her hit Anaconda certainly got the world talking about her butt.

In the video, she is seen twerking in her panties while rapping.

Three years before the controversial song, Nicki shocked fans when she pulled out a dildo on stage and placed it between her legs.

It’s safe to say she’s not worried about playing it safe to avoid controversy.

And the sexual stunts did not harm her because she is believed to be one of the richest rappers in the world.

Just three months ago, she posted a photo of herself naked in a bathtub and a photo of herself with just her nipples covered.

Singing sensation Christina built her career on being lavish in her performances and sexually charged lyrics.

Her more provocative image was designed to boost sales of her second album, Stripped, which is one of the best-selling albums of the 21st century.

Her 2002 smash hit Dirrty saw her strut around in skimpy outfits and perform provocative dance moves.

And he’s happy to talk about sex and sexuality outside of his songs.

On the Call Her Daddy podcast, she said: “I always wanted to own [my sexuality]. It was always important to me.

“Sexuality is a beautiful thing and as women we should take care of it.

“We really have to make sure we prioritize that, ourselves and what it means to us.”

22 years later, she’s still happy to strip down to nothing – which she did to celebrate turning 44.

She also joined Sabrina on tour for Short ‘n Sweet and wore a similar outfit to the younger singer, showing off her incredible figure.
