Get Ready with Brenda Song and Macaulay Culkin for a Rare Glam Beauty Date Night (Exclusive)

Brenda Song and Macaulay Culkin share their skincare secrets!

On Friday, the longtime couple prepared for a glamorous outing to celebrate the release of Clarins’ new Multi-Active collection, and they took PEOPLE behind the scenes.

At the event, which was held at a Los Angeles mansion decorated in a Y2K pink theme, Song, 35, and Culkin, 43, were joined by several A-listers including Christina Aguilera — who performed at the dinner — Abigail Breslin, Jessie Metcalfe and more.

Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE, the couple — who welcomed a son together in 2021 and got engaged in 2022 — opened up about their get-ready routines, favorite skincare products and more.

According to the couple, who met in 2017 in Thailand on the set of Seth Green’s film Changelandthere are a few key differences in their dating routines—specifically, yes Social network the actress has one, and Culkin’s is pretty limited.

Although the product they both use is the new Multi-Active, the similarities in their routines end there, they tell PEOPLE.

“It took Brenda about an hour and a half, and Mack about five to eight minutes [to get ready]. The biggest difference about [our] routine is for Brenda to have one,” jokes Culkin.

Drawing on the theme of Multi-Active’s new Y2K-inspired pink packaging, Song says she channeled the early 2000s with her style, makeup and skincare routines for the event — aiming for a youthful look.

“It was the best time of my life,” she explains of the pop culture era of the 2000s. “It was very easy for me to slip into some Y2K. I feel like that was my youth and I was going out with my friends and living my best Christina Aguilera life.”

For Song, using Multi-Active is a way to alleviate stress and other factors that cause aging.

“​​I didn’t realize my skin was so dull and tired, and it was called stress aging, and I was like, ‘What?’ “, recalls the actress. “What I love about Multi-Active Moisturizer is that it does so many things in one product. For me, because I’m so busy, I don’t need to have a six-step routine. I just have something that does everything and I don’t have to think about it.”

Simplicity is key, Song says—both when it comes to skincare and personal style.

“I think when I was younger, of course, you experiment, you figure out what your style is, you figure out who you are,” she tells PEOPLE about how her style has evolved over the years. “Now, I think I’m much more comfortable in my own skin. Honestly, I just don’t have time to think about what I’m wearing anymore because I’m running around.”

“Less is more for me now, which is shocking,” she adds. “Now I only wear heels when I’m working or at events like this. I used to run around in four inches all the time. I just can’t do it now.”

When asked when he first got into skin care and what his daily routine looks like, Culkin laughingly told PEOPLE, “Whenever Brenda started putting on my face.”

“He doesn’t have a skin care routine,” says Song. “If she washes her face with water at night, I’m lucky. I’m the one who has to rub his face.”

Although her level of skincare is vastly different from her husband’s, Song expressed how much they rely on each other for support — and how much Culkin appreciates her natural beauty.

“I think he’s the one who really made me feel the most beautiful when I’m getting ready to go to bed and I don’t have anything on my face and I’m so tired,” she says. “We’re about to watch some really stupid thing on TV, and he looks at me, and [I’m like], ‘He makes me feel so confident.’ ”

Speaking about what the pair do to unwind after a night out at the Clarins launch, Song reveals she has one rule about her bedtime routine, while Culkin says wine and reality TV are always on the menu after a long day.

“I have never, ever washed my face before bed in my life,” says Song. “It doesn’t matter how tired I am, how drunk I am, wherever I am in the world, I always wash my face.”

Culkin, meanwhile, said he’s “going to relax with a glass of wine and wait for Brenda to finish her nightly skincare routine and wonder why it’s taking her so long.”

“The kitchen at the scene of the crime they won’t take care of themselves,” he adds.
