Girl, 5, killed in horror crash that saw car burst into huge fireball – as cops make urgent CCTV appeal

A FIVE-YEAR-OLD girl tragically died after a terrible car accident in which four others remained in the hospital.

Avon and Somerset Police were called to Bishport Avenue, in Hartcliffe, Bristol, at around 8.20pm on Wednesday August 14 following reports of a single vehicle collision.

A five-year-old girl and four other people, one of whom is in serious condition, were rushed to the hospital.

Fire crews were also called to battle the flames that engulfed the car.

Eyewitnesses claimed that there was a heavy police presence at the scene, with several ambulances, fire engines and one ambulance.

Police unfortunately confirmed on Thursday that the young girl died from her injuries this week.

Police have now launched an urgent appeal for information following the tragedy.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: “Officers are renewing their appeal following the fatal collision in Hartcliffe earlier this month.

“Officers were called to a single vehicle collision in Bishport Avenue, Hartcliffe, on Wednesday August 14 at around 8.20pm.

“Four people were transferred to the hospital, one of whom is in serious condition.

“It is with great sadness that we have to confirm that a five-year-old girl died this week from injuries sustained following a collision.

“Her family are aware and are being offered support by a specially trained family liaison officer. Our thoughts are with them at this time.

“Investigations into the collision are ongoing and we are renewing our appeal for witnesses and anyone with a video camera, doorbell or CCTV footage.”

A horrified eyewitness told Bristol Live: “11 police cars, three unmarked, two ambulances, four ambulances, three fire engines and an ambulance helicopter were at Hartcliffe with police tape blocking the whole street.

“I heard a policeman say something about the accident.”

Another added: “I was on the bus and you could see the line of fire on the road where the car was on fire.

“There was like a streak of fire behind it so I think the tires might have been on fire.”
