Golden Bachelorette Joan Vassos Recalls Her DMs Being 'Inundated' with 'D— Pics' and People with 'Foot Fetishes'

Ever since she debuted on Bachelor Nation , Joan Vassos has been getting attention — and her DMs are getting louder.

The Golden Bachelor star, 61, was candid about the attention she’s received since starring in the first season The Golden Bachelor. She said Entertainment Weekly that she is “inundated” with requests for messages from men on social networks.

“It was difficult for me to manage that process. In the dating app they are somehow verified and you can see the profile. [With DMs]they’re just complete strangers texting you,” she said of the men who would approach her. “I didn’t really respond to them much. Or I’d make small talk and say, ‘Thank you, you’re so flattering’ or whatever.”

Vassos then revealed that none of those relationships “were anything that really worked” and that “some of the DMs were weird.”

“I have d— pictures,” she explained. “And I got people with foot fetishes. They wanted me to send them pictures of my feet and they would pay me for it. One person offered to buy all the shoes I wore The Golden Bachelor. It was terrifying. My kids said, ‘Give me your phone, mom. We’re blocking all of this.'”

Vassos made it Bachelor franchise debut as a contestant on The Golden Bachelorthe first season of the senior dating show starring Gerry Turner. Despite being the favorite, Vassos decided to leave the show to help her daughter who was suffering from postpartum depression after giving birth.

In May, ABC announced that Vassos would be appointed The Golden Bachelor. When asked about the qualities she looks for in a suitor, the reality star revealed that they are non-negotiable in PEOPLE’s exclusive first-look video in July.

“I’m very picky when it comes to a man being a gentleman,” she explained. “Someone with a big heart, someone who is generous and also someone who is humble.”

The school administrator also told her family: “I’m not here to replace dad, I just want our family to be whole again. So we live: we live in a great adventure!”
