Richard, 67, was left feeling as if his right arm had been “cut off” after his iPhone was swiped by someone selling a magazine.

They slyly placed the product on top of Richard’s cell phone before picking it up unnoticed.

Now he wanted to “hang” the perpetrator for the cruel theft.

The furious presenter wrote in the Spectator: “I’ve always been against the death penalty, but after the week I’ve spent I’m making an exception.

“Bring back the death penalty for iPhone thieves, if you will. Preferably by theft.”

Describing the incident, Richard continued: “I was in my bar when a strange-looking guy hanging around the bar slammed a dog-eared magazine on my table and demanded I buy it.

When I refused, he swept it again and wandered off. Five minutes later I realized he had smuggled my phone under a magazine.”

Richard warned readers of the “swamp standard technique” he had fallen for, adding: “I hate the man who did this to me. Even so, I accept that subterfuge is probably going too far.

“So, I’ll settle for a straight hang. As long as I’m the one who gets to pull the lid lever, OK?”
