Dotasra was elected as Pradhan of Laxmangarh Panchayat Samiti in 2005. He won the Laxmangarh seat in the 2008 Rajasthan Legislative Assembly elections defeating independent candidate Dinesh Joshi by a narrow margin of 34 votes and has been representing Sikar’s Laxmangarh constituency in the Rajasthan region since 2008. In 2013, he was elected by a margin of 10,723 votes, defeating former Union minister of state and three-time MP Subhash Maharia. Dotasra was a member of the Public Accounts Committee of the Rajasthan Assembly in 2015-16. In Parliament, he raised issues related to farmers and weaker sections of society. On November 20, 2021, he respected the party’s one-person-one-post policy and resigned as a minister.
