Guillermo del Toro Stated To Make Netflix’s The Buried Giant After Pinocchio’s Success

Guillermo del Toro is poised to return with another cartoon film, a version of The Buried Giant, following the triumph of his previous film, Pinocchio. The video will be produced for Netflix as well. Guillermo del Toro is said to have recruited the assistance of the stop-motion animation company ShadowMachine for The Buried Giant, just as he did for Pinocchio. The Oscar-nominated version of Carlo Collodi’s children’s book has already garnered a great deal of applause and critical accolades for its visual style and storytelling abilities.

With the translation of Carlo Collodi’s book, the author of Cabinet of Curiosities made his first foray into stop-motion animation. The Buried Giant should be similar to del Toro’s previous picture in that it combines aspects of magical realism, creatures, and symbolic grandeur.

The screenplay for The Buried Giant is being written by Guillermo del Toro and Dennis Kelly.

While specifics about Guillermo del Toro’s forthcoming project are still scarce, the director has divulged that he has already begun working on a screenplay with Dennis Kelly. The picture will be based on Nobel Prize-winning British novelist Kazuo Ishiguro’s fantastical book of the same name. The novel’s plot revolves around an old British couple, Axl and Beatrice, who lives in a fictitious post-Arthurian England in which no one can keep long-term recollections. The pair sets out to locate their kid after thinking that they may have one.

Considering del Toro’s distinctive spin on the tale, it should be an entertaining picture. In a recent comment about the picture, the filmmaker stated:

“The Buried Giant continues my animation collaboration with Netflix and our quest for stop-motion as a means to convey complicated tales and create infinite worlds. It is an honor and a big obligation for me to direct this script that Dennis Kelly and I are translating from Kazuo Ishiguro’s deep and creative book.”

Scott Stuber, Head of Netflix Cinema, added:

“Guillermo del Toro is a maestro of his art and a creative director. We couldn’t be more delighted with the distinguished award for his Pinocchio, and we’re excited to continue our artistic collaboration as he creates his next project with Netflix.”

Pinocchio, helmed by del Toro and Mark Gustafson, became one of the most renowned pictures of 2022, garnering Academy nods and plaudits worldwide. Del Toro had already won the BAFTA for best cartoon picture a few days before. It was also a top ten picture in nearly 100 nations. The reaction reflected Netflix’s long-standing collaboration with Guillermo del Toro. More information about The Buried Behemoth will be released shortly.
