Harrison Ford’s 5 Children: Everything to Know

Harrison Ford raised children at different stages of his life.

The Indiana Jones the star became a father for the first time in the 1960s, giving birth to sons Benjamin (57) and Willard (54), whom he shares with his first wife, illustrator Mary Marquardt. Ford was in his early 20s at the time and had yet to start acting.

He then welcomed son Malcolm (36) and daughter Georgia (33) in 1987 and 1990 respectively with his second wife Melissa Mathison. Ten years later, Ford adopted his now-wife Calista Flockhart’s son Liam (22).

While the wide age gap between all five of his children may not be common, the actor has seen it as an advantage when it comes to his parenting.

“My older kids taught me a lot,” Ford said The Independent 2010. “My first child was born when I was 25; I think I’m a little better at [parenting] now.”

When asked about raising his then 9-year-old son Liam, when he was 67 at the time, Star Wars the actor responded, “I have five kids in total, so it’s not my first rodeo. Yeah, obviously, I’m getting older, but I don’t get too attached to it. It’s not something I’m interested in as something to dwell on. I have a 9-year-old kid at house. I feel like the father of a 9-year-old.”

All of Ford’s children are grown, but Shrinkage said the star Esquire in May 2023 to still “take the bullet” for any of his children. Ford also admitted that he “probably would have been a better parent” if he had been less successful as an actor.

Ford’s eldest son, Benjamin “Ben” Ford, was born on September 22, 1966. At the time, Ford had only recently started acting and was still 10 years away from his big break as Han Solo in Star Wars.

Ben has a successful career as a chef. He is the owner of the restaurant Ford’s Filling Station, and he also wrote a cookbook Taming the Feast: A Field Guide to Adventure Cooking by Ben Fordaccording to his biography on Instagram.

During the performance at CBS This Morning In 2015, Ben explained that baseball “dominated” his life from childhood until his early 20s, but after suffering an injury, he found a new career: cooking.

“When I got hurt, I got some of my mom’s Jacques Pépin videos, some of her kitchen knives and I literally went to San Francisco and started banging on the back door the old fashioned way,” he said of his early cooking days.

As for his personal life, Ben and his estranged wife, Emily Ford, have two sons: Ethan and Waylon. Emily filed for divorce in November 2023 after 14 years of marriage. The divorce was finalized in March 2024.

Ford and Marquardt had their second child, a son, Willard Ford, on May 14, 1969.

Like his older brother, Willard also took a path outside of show business. Willard attended the University of California, Santa Cruz and earned a BA in American Studies. He is now an entrepreneur and owner of Strong Sports Gym, a gym based in Los Angeles. It also previously owned the Kim Sing Theatre, which it used as an exhibition and event space.

In 2014, when Willard was selling a theater in LA, he shared some of his work in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “We have done launch events for BMW, Nike as well as corporate events for the Grammys, Pepsi and Star Wars in this place. It’s great for all of that,” Willard explained.

Ford and his second wife, Mathison, had a son, Malcolm Ford, on October 3, 1987.

Like his father, Malcolm works in the entertainment industry, but more as a professional musician than as an actor. Malcolm was the lead singer of the band The Dough Rollers. During their run, the band opened for acts including Bob Dylan and Queens of the Stone Age. And Malcolm wasn’t the only child actor in the group — his bandmate, Jack Byrne, is the son of Ellen Barkin and Gabriel Byrne.

Speaking with Interview magazine In 2013, Malcolm spoke about the music he grew up listening to as a child. “I didn’t grow up with music in the house, like every kid playing ‘Blackbird’ when they got home from school or something. My mom would listen to Wagner sometimes, but I got into punk music first,” he said. “My first cassette was Green Jellÿ. That was a band I really liked.”

Ford’s fourth child and only daughter is Georgia Ford. Ford and Mathison welcomed Georgia on June 30, 1990. Georgia followed in her father’s footsteps and pursued an acting career. She had roles in the 2013 film American Milkshakein 2015 True story and short film anthology 2020 I’m me.

Although Ford and his children are quite reclusive, he spoke about Georgia at NYU Langone Medical Center’s Find a Cure for Epilepsy and Seizures (FACES) event in 2016. In his speech, Ford tearfully said that Georgia suffered from seizures as a child, adding that it took years to correctly diagnose her epilepsy. After she was finally diagnosed, the doctor “prescribed her the right medication and therapy; she was seizure free for eight years.”

The father of five said NY Daily News of his daughter at the event, “I admire so many things about her. I admire her perseverance, her talent, her strength. She’s my hero. I love her.”

Ford later auctioned off his iconic Han Solo jacket for epilepsy research in Georgia’s honor in March 2016. That same month, the father-daughter duo were spotted bonding over lunch in New York.

Ford’s youngest child is Liam Flockhart Ford. Flockhart adopted Liam – born in 2001 – before she started dating Ford, and the actor later adopted him as well.

In an interview with Shortened version when Liam was 7, Ford shared how grateful he was for the opportunity to raise another child. “My youngest, apart from Liam, is 17,” he said. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to be a part of a child’s growing up, which is always an endless spring. You see the blossoming and the growth, the care and the gain. Being a parent has made me just a little less self-centered.” He added that he was also grateful for Flockhart, saying, “She brought the child back into my home.”

In 2020, Ford and Flockhart are seen dropping him off at college, and he arrives in a very different way than his classmates — his dad flies him to school in his own private jet.

Ford has been known to fly, but there was one terrifying activity he said Liam made him try. During an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, in 1923 the actor shared that he skydived because Liam “wanted to do it.” He added: “But it was fun, it was great. I loved it.”

Ford said they have discussed leaving again, noting they “don’t talk to his mother about it.”
