Hilary Duff and Matthew Koma Take in Mandy Moore’s Family amid L.A. Fires: ‘The Kindest Act Any Human Could Do'

Mandy Moore’s family has taken refuge at friend Hilary Duff’s home amid the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles.

Moore’s brother-in-law, Griffin Goldsmith, revealed in an Instagram post that he is This is us star, her husband Taylor Goldsmith and their children — August “Gus” Harrison, 3, Oscar “Ozzie” Bennett, 2, and 3-month-old Louise Everett — are staying with Duff, 37, and her husband Matthew Koma after their home was destroyed by fire in Altadena.

“Our dear friends @matthewkoma and @hilaryduff thought it wise to set up a gofundme for us to help with everything moving forward,” wrote the musician, who also lost his home. “Not to mention that my brother’s family is currently housed. They have taken care of my entire family from the moment this started. I will never be able to thank them adequately.”

“This is the kindest act a person could do for another,” he added. “They are the nicest, most selfless people we have ever met.”

Representatives for Moore and Duff did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Griffin also opened up about his own situation after he and wife Kit lost their home in a bushfire, writing: “It’s impossible to express how we feel right now. We lost everything. 8 years of memories created in our house. 20 years of equipment. My wife @quintessentiallykit has been putting the finishing touches on the nursery for our baby boy who is due in a few weeks. Over the years, she has put her heart and soul into turning the property into a literal piece of paradise. Anyone who has had the opportunity to visit can attest to that.”

Griffin added: “All these houses are gone. What we regret most is the loss of community. Unfortunately, we are not the only ones who count on this. We all had to watch our home, the city we love so much, turn into a hellish landscape overnight. And it’s by no means over…”

Griffin then thanked people for contributing to the couple’s GoFundMe, adding: “I’ve never been so touched in my life. We are completely delighted. I can’t talk or think about it without crying.”

Moore recently shut down criticism in an Instagram post after sharing Griffin and Kit’s fundraising page, which has currently raised over $200,000.

“And people asking if we’re helping our own family or crediting the arbitrary amount of money Google says someone has is NOT helpful or compassionate,” she wrote about her finances. – Of course we are.

“Our friend Matt started this GoFundMe and I’m sharing because people have been asking how I can help,” Moore added. “We also lost most of our lives in the fire.”

The actress then concluded her caption with a direct message to critics: “Kindly F OFF. No one is forcing you to do anything.”

The message comes after Moore revealed the extent of the damage to her home in an Instagram post, saying the family still had “the main part of our house”.

“We were able to park and walk down our street to witness our loss. Miraculously, the main part of our house is still standing. For now,” Moore wrote on social media. “It’s not livable, but it’s mostly intact. We lost Taylor and Griffin’s studio with all the instruments and equipment they ever owned. We lost our garage and the back house.”
