I feared robbers snatched my child…it was most scared I’ve ever been in my life, says Jacqueline Jossa on raid ordeal

SOAP star Jacqueline Jossa feared armed intruders had kidnapped one of her children in an attack on her holiday villa.

The 31-year-old actress woke up to find two men in balaclavas rummaging through her belongings – and feared one was carrying one of her children as he ran away.

She told The Sun on Sunday: “I was shaking and couldn’t speak because I was the most scared I’ve ever been and I immediately thought, ‘Oh my God! Children!’.

“’Did he have a child in his hand? Did I see the little girl’s leg?’ I couldn’t think clearly and I was panicking.”

The chilling incident happened in the early hours of last Monday morning at a holiday villa in Marbella, Spain.

The robbers, one of whom was armed with something “long and sharp”, took £20,000 worth of loot.

But Jacqueline said her first thoughts were her daughters – Ella, nine, Mia, five – and 10-year-old son Teddy, her reality star husband, Dan Osborne.

Of the stolen items, she said that she only cares about the sentimental value of the engagement ring that Dan (33) gave her.

She was also devastated that the tooth fairy robbers stole Mia’s money.

Recalling that night, Jacqueline, who plays Lauren Branning in the BBC soap One, said: “I was struggling to sleep in the villa and then I heard a really distinctive sound of something metal hitting the marble floor.

“I opened my eyes and saw that our bedroom door was wide open, and I was sleeping with the door closed.

“And then I thought, ‘Why is the torchlight coming through the darkness?’

“I left the room and saw a man in a full balaclava and gloves, who saw me and ran straight down the stairs.

“It was like a movie.

“I was in complete shock.

“I followed him and peeked over the stairs just to make sure I had seen it right.

“Then I could hear a struggle, as if the men were trying to get out of the house.

“So I immediately ran to wake Dan up.

“He was obviously half asleep, in his pants, saying, ‘What’s going on, what’s going on?’

“And I thought, ‘Someone’s down there.’ But I don’t even know if I spoke English because everything was a blur.

“Dan went downstairs and grabbed a cue from the pool table.

The masked men threw him out the back door of the mansion into a waiting getaway car and sped off, but Jacqueline went straight to check on her children.

She said: “I was frantically running around all the rooms to make sure all the children were in their beds.

“But everyone was fast asleep.

“I had to make sure, touch them, to make sure they were there.

“That was my first thought.

“It upsets me a bit, because I think it could have been so different because one of the children could have woken up and seen a man holding something sharp and wearing a balaclava.

This could be a missing persons case and that would be a completely different story

“And it would have scarred them for life, so as much as it probably scarred me for life, I’m so thankful that it was me and not them.

“Every time I close my eyes and think about it, I picture them running away with the child.

“This could be a missing persons case and that would be a completely different story.”

Jacqueline is also thankful that she and Dan escaped serious injury.

She said: “I saw a flash of something but after seeing the CCTV I realized they had something long and sharp in their hands.

“It wasn’t clear enough to say it was a knife.

“He could have been, like, a massive screwdriver to try to get in the door.

“But even still, it could easily pierce your skin.

“I think it would be used as a weapon.

“I don’t think that big men in balaclavas and gloves enter the house, where they know there are people, that they enter the room while people are sleeping without weapons.

“I definitely think they would have something to protect themselves if they needed to.

“If I had followed them down, something worse could have happened.

“It could have gone horribly wrong and this would be a completely different story.

“Dan could have been seriously injured because he tried to protect his family.”

The burglars may have been in the property for around 15 minutes before they were disturbed and managed to steal jewelery and cash.

Jacqueline continued: “At first I didn’t even think about what they took.

“We didn’t even check, but when I realized the kids were safe, it dawned on me that the sound I heard was probably them dropping my jewelry.

“I said, ‘Oh my God, they were in our room, Dan’.

“And then I ran over and checked where my jewelry was, but it wasn’t there.”

14 years of success for the soap opera Jac

JACQUELINE rose to fame at the age of 17 in 2010 when she took on the role of Lauren Branning in EastEnders.

At the 2012 National Television Awards, she won the Best Newcomer gong for her hard-hitting storylines.

In 2017, it was announced that Jacqueline would be leaving Albert Square.

In the same year, she married former Towie star Dan Osborne, with whom she has two daughters.

Then in 2019, she was crowned with the title I am the famous queen of the jungle.

New Year saw a long-awaited return to EastEnders as Lauren returned to Walford after a six-year absence.

Jacqueline also dabbled in fashion, producing her own clothing collection.

Jacqueline’s £7,000 diamond engagement ring was taken along with a Cartier bracelet and ring. But the 2019 I’m a Celebrity winner is furious that thieves stole her five-year-old daughter’s pocket money.

She said: “I’m angry that they took the kids — Mia’s little purse.

“It makes me so sad, honestly, sadder than anything else.

“She lost a tooth, so she had some money from the Tooth Fairy in her purse.

“Her bag was all open, and the money was even taken out of the purse.

Of her stolen jewelry, Jacqueline said: “Dan saved up for months and months ten years ago for that ring, and it was very important to me.

When I realized the children were safe, it dawned on me that the sound I heard was probably my jewelry being dropped

Jacqueline Jossa

“That’s what I’m most upset about, and that’s gone because I feel like we all know that me and Dan have been through a lot of ups and downs, but I really feel like the ring was something that was always a part of our relationship.

“So I’m gutted that it’s gone.

“But again, I’m just glad it wasn’t a child.

“My Cartier bracelet was a 30th birthday present from Dan and my Cartier ring was a 30th birthday present from my very good friends Adam and Jamie.

Family first of all

»It is all of sentimental value.

“The ring has really stood the test of time, as it once fell into my bathroom sink.

“The ring has really been through a lot.

“I don’t think we will get our things back, but if one of us woke up at a different time, or someone was chasing someone, or, God forbid, they weren’t looking for jewelry, they were looking for children. , it would be much worse.”

As soon as the robbers left, Dan called the police, who said that such robberies are becoming more common.

Jacqueline said: “The police were not surprised at all.

“I think they face a lot of similar incidents in Marbella.

“I think that night people called and said something similar had happened to them.

“I don’t think they’ll be able to do much about getting things back.

“He’s probably already gone and sold to someone else.

“That’s exactly what they do.

“The burglars got past iPads and car keys, which I assume have tracking.

“I think they were quite experienced.

“I think they knew what they were doing.”

Speaking about the couple’s reaction, she said: “I can be quite dramatic and Dan is really calm.

“So that’s how it works, especially in these moments of crisis.

“He was really incredibly calm.

“I have no doubt that he is the best dad in the world, no one will ever be able to beat him because that’s how he is as a parent.

“He is absolutely amazing.

“That’s who came through and that’s my favorite version of him.

“I love them all.

“But that’s my favorite, and it’s always family first.”

Now Jacqueline wants to warn other tourists to take precautions while they are away from home.

She said: “Things like this can happen to anyone.

“People should always make sure that they use the safe and that if you are renting a villa, you know how to use the alarm system.

“It’s easy to be blasé when you’re relaxed on vacation.

“There was no safe in our room, and if there had been, my ring probably wouldn’t have been taken because I would put it there every night.”

Jacqueline and family decided to stay in Spain for the rest of the vacation, but moved into a hotel.

She continued: “Many of the English people in our hotel who read what happened were really nice, checking on us and asking us, ‘Are you okay?’ And it just goes to show that the British are really warm and lovely.

“It seemed to me that there are a lot of friendly people here.

“I feel safe. Everyone was very kind to me, Dan and the children.”

A spokesman for the National Police in Malaga said: “The investigation is ongoing.

“Still no arrests.”

A source close to the investigation added: “The investigation is being led by a specialist anti-robbery team based in Marbella, who will report to the local court.

“Victims will be notified if arrests are made and valuables or other stolen items are recovered.

“Police are working on the basis that this crime was carried out by a professional group who were probably watching the property and knew it was occupied.

What is not yet clear is whether the criminals knew there were people inside when they broke in.”
