I’m A Celeb launch in chaos just seconds into show as viewers boycott it

The presentation of I’m a Celebrity was left in chaos this evening as viewers immediately tuned out.

Unhappy fans vowed to tune out due to Nigel Farage’s participation – and it wasn’t long before the ‘boycott I’m a celebrity’ hashtag was trending.

As Ant and Dec began their performance on Twitter, one person wrote: “Can’t watch this year, couldn’t watch last year either. Shame on @antanddec for platform hate. #BoycottImACeleba.”

Another said: “I regret not watching this year, first time ever! #BoycottImACeleba.”

While a third added: “I lost interest this year because of Nigel Farage, thank you for ruining it, because I lost interest last year #BoycottImACeleb.”

Nigel’s Twitter account hit back and pointed out that there were more than 20,000 tweets about the man himself, but only five thousand for the trend.

They wrote: “Then it’s good to see that the boycott is going well…”

Speaking before entering the jungle, Nigel said he wanted to prove he was not a “mean, nasty little Englishman”.

The former Ukip politician believes his decades-long campaign for the UK to leave Europe has left him “demonised” in the public eye.

The 59-year-old said: “My crime was to go against the establishment view. For years I have been a lone voice saying that Europe is not where we should be, so I am somewhat demonized.

“I hope that those who hate me will hate me a little less later. But that’s a gamble. And the thought that somehow the things I represent – vile, small-minded, vicious, ‘little Englishman’ – all those accusations that have been thrown at me for years are simply not true.

“If we can dispel some of those misconceptions, then that will be a good thing as well.”

Nigel is said to have been the highest paid celeb of all time – with a whopping £1 million cheque.
