Wall-to-wall sunshine, a sparkling coastline and an enchanting old town – it’s easy to see why Jasmine Harman embraces the beauty of Estepona.
Presenter of Channel 4’s A Place in the Sun moved to Spain with husband Jon Boast and their children, Joy, nine, and seven-year-old Albion, after finding the family home of their dreams.
Jasmine Harman’s move to Spain
“It was a big decision – a year or so in the making,” says Jasmine, 47. “For both of us, it was about creating the best life. The years go by and that’s a big reason we wanted to make this move; to spend more quality time together, more time with family.
“Our children mean a lot to us in the world. Everything we do is for them. It’s about grabbing opportunities when you have them. Family is the most important thing and that will allow us to have a much better balance.”

While commuting has become much easier for Jasmine while filming in Spain, director of photography Jon, 44 – who she met while filming her first episode of the TV series and married five years later in 2009 – will be the one doing more of the traveling.
“It took us a long time to realize: live for the moment and enjoy the ones you love every day,” he says. “Jas is used to traveling from the UK to Spain; now it’s my turn to do the reverse.
“Although I still work a lot in the UK, walking through these doors is like a sigh of relief. This isn’t just a house; it’s our sanctuary. Jasmine has worked her magic and we already feel like this place is our little sanctuary.”

Jasmine Harman’s friendship with Jonnie Irwin and Laura Hamilton
Their words are especially touching after their close friend and Jasmine’s ex A place in the sun Co-host Jonnie Irwin was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in 2020.
Jasmine says: “We’ve had friends – Jonnie included, obviously – suffer from life-changing illnesses and diagnoses. And we’ve also had bereavements, which make us rethink things. You never know what’s around the corner.

“I tell my house hunters this – for a lot of people, losing someone or having a health scare can be the catalyst for them to decide, ‘Let’s do it. It’s now or never. Life’s too short to mess around.'”
Smiling warmly, she adds: “I’ve been talking to Jonnie and we’ve been texting and he said he’s going to come over and visit us. He’s a very, very special friend of mine. I’d love it if Jess and the kids could come.”
The hosts of the show are very much a family – Laura Hamilton has also come to the rescue and has already stopped by to see how they are already settled.

They embrace their new home
“I don’t want to say we haven’t had a few hiccups along the way,” Jasmine says of their decision to leave their London home. “There were times when I thought, ‘This is too much, I don’t think we can do it.’ The mental load was intense.”
Jon adds: “I’m not going to lie – the move filled me with great anxieties. But now coming to our new home already feels like a warm hug. I hope it will help me to take time away from work and focus even more on the children. They are the biggest motivation in our lives.”
Jasmine knew right away that it was him. “It has a wonderful community feel. We have a lot of Spanish families nearby and I’ve been hovering outside to say hello to all our new neighbors. We’re planning on moving in to meet everyone.”
