Nicole Kidman’s latest major project hasn’t received an ideal response from critics after the reviews were published earlier this week. The actress, a household name in her Hollywood career but has also enjoyed huge success in television series including The Undoing and Big Little Lies, recently starred in Taylor Sheridan’s new production, Special Ops: Lioness.
The series, starring Zoe Saldana, received mixed reviews, with Variety writing that the characters were “limited archetypes” and The Daily Beast calling it “talent-wasting sloppiness” and “patriotic nonsense”.

The reviews are based on the first episode of the eight-part season, which was released on Sunday. Fans have also had mixed reactions, with one person tweeting: “The first 2 episodes of #SpecialOpsLioness are a bit trashy.. let’s hope the remaining 6 episodes are better.”
Still, some fans loved it, with one writing: “Also watch Special Ops: Lioness if you all like Taylor Sheridan’s series and series. Pretty interesting so far with two episodes coming out. #SpecialOpsLioness,” while another added: “Watched the first 2 episodes and thought this was great. Worth watching.”

Despite mixed reactions to her new show, Nicole enjoyed a press tour of the new show, sharing snaps of herself and Zoe, as well as photos from a recent trip to London.
The actress, who works as a producer on the show, and didn’t initially want to star until she learned Zoe would be playing the lead role, said, “When Zoe signed on to play the lead role, I thought, ‘That’s great.’ I didn’t want to be in it, and then I said, ‘Wow…’ It’s too tempting.”

Speaking of working with Nicole, Zoe told RadioTimes: “She’s exactly what I imagined and hoped she would become. She’s dedicated, she’s the most prepared on set, she knows all her lines. Sometimes she stays the same and that’s a bit weird.”

Special Operations: Lioness was inspired by a real US military program. “Follow the life of Joe (Zoe Saldaña) as she tries to balance her personal and professional life as the CIA’s spearhead in the war on terror.”

“The Lioness program, overseen by Kaitlyn Meade (Nicole Kidman) and Donald Westfield (Michael Kelly), recruits a belligerent Marine Raider named Cruz (Laysla De Oliveira) to operate undercover with Joe among the state terror powers in the CIA’s efforts to prevent the coming 9/11 events.”
