Inside Michael Strahan’s public fall out with Kelly Ripa

Michael Strahan and Kelly Ripa are both favorite TV personalities and worked with each other for four years between 2012 and 2016 on Live! with Kelly and Michael. Kelly previously admitted she was “blindsided” after Michael revealed he would be leaving the show to join Good morning America, only revealing the news at the same time as the media. After taking time off following the announcement, she told the audience upon her return that there must be “communication, consideration and, most importantly, respect in the workplace”, alluding to Michael’s departure.

Later she spoke with Diversity about the situation, admitting she thought it was “outrageous,” explaining, “I didn’t make a fuss; it wasn’t a big deal; I just said, I’m not going to do it. If I’m not worth discussing, if I’m not worthy of you having this conversation from me — it was unheard of.”

Kelly – who is now joined on the show by husband Mark Consuelos – added that her candid remarks have been widely supported by her TV colleagues, adding: “I don’t think there’s been a woman on air that I haven’t seen hear from: either a personal letter or an email -mail or text or DM. It’s so easy to think it’s just you. But you’d be amazed how many people don’t feel like they’re being seen or heard at all.”

Michael has also since spoken out about the aftermath, admitting it “could have been handled better”. He said The New York Times: “I don’t want to be on the show and feel like everyone else is carrying me. I want us all to be successful. I’ve done things where I’ve gone in with team concepts, and I’ve gotten there and realized it’s not about the team. It’s selfish and I’m not working well under that.”

He added: “In sports, you can put as many great players as you want on a team, but if one guy is worried about himself, it’s not going to work. Then I had jobs in television where I got to and I felt like, ‘Wow, I’m not knew I should be an assistant’. I thought I was coming here to be a partner. . . . When it was time to go, it was time to go. Certain things that were going on behind the scenes just caught us.”

He also revealed that he and Kelly had different ways of working, explaining that he wanted to have regular meetings with her about the show. “We met a few times and it was fine,” he explained. “But then she ended up saying we shouldn’t meet. I can’t force someone to do something they don’t want to do. I don’t hate her. I respect her for what she can do at her job. I can’t say enough about how good she is at her job. ”

In September 2023, Kelly and Michael’s feud became a topic of conversation again after fans noticed Kelly’s absence from Robin Roberts and Amber Laign’s wedding. Several media outlets reported that the mother of three did not attend her friend’s wedding due to her feud with Michael, who was on the guest list.

However, no one has confirmed or denied these reports, and based on Kelly’s Instagram posts, it seems she had other plans, and was instead supporting her husband Mark as he hosted Mexico’s Independence Day parade.
