An investigation is underway after a Florida woman who has been incarcerated since 2022 told her family she was pregnant, Daisy Link attorney Marlene Montaner confirmed in a statement to PEOPLE.
Link’s family is seeking answers from Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County about how the pregnancy occurred, according to CBS News Miami, Local 10 News and NBC News.
The 28-year-old has been in the facility for more than a year, awaiting trial on charges of alleged second-degree murder, media reports said.

In a statement, the prison said in part: “The safety of care and rehabilitation of all those in our custody remains our top priority.”
Link’s family told Local 10 News they believe she was sexually assaulted. “The circumstances surrounding the pregnancy are currently under active investigation,” prison officials said in a statement. Officials also said in a statement that “at this time, there is no evidence of sexual abuse of our inmate.”
Regarding Link’s prenatal care, Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center said in a statement to NBC News, “Pregnant inmates receive timely and appropriate prenatal care; specialized obstetric services as indicated by CHS and recovery time after delivery.”
Linka’s family say they are concerned for her safety.
Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
