Jamie Lee Curtis 'Deeply' Respects Pamela Anderson for ‘Walking Through the B.S. of Show Business’ (Exclusive)

Jamie Lee Curtis has nothing but praise for her The last showgirl actress Pamela Anderson.

“I think she’s a transcendent creature,” Curtis, 65, told PEOPLE exclusively at the Toronto International Film Festival on Friday, Sept. 6. “I think she is so smart and deeply spiritual and soulful. And beautiful!”

Anderson, 57, plays the title role The last showgirl as Shelley, a Las Vegas dancer rebuilding her life after the closing of a long-running show. Curtis, who plays Shelley’s “best friend” Annette, said she “did the movie because she needed to be in the movie.”

In fact, the Oscar winner had another project on the horizon and was looking for specific days to shoot The last showgirl so she could join Anderson on screen.

Anderson broke into Hollywood after working as a model who often appeared in Playboy magazine. During her three-year marriage to Tommy Lee, she endured controversy after stealing and distributing a sex tape, one of many Baywatch alum spoke candidly in her 2023 memoir Love, Pamela and a Netflix documentary Pamela, a love story.

On the red carpet in Toronto, Curtis confirmed to reporters that she had watched the documentary, which was produced by Anderson’s son Brandon Lee. “She was very honest about how society treated her,” she said of her colleague. “But I hope we all will appreciate her talent again after they see the film.”

The film marks Anderson’s first starring role in years; her last screen appearance was the 2022 horror film Alone at night.

The Toronto International Film Festival takes place from September 5 to 15. After debuting at the festival, The last showgirl will be shown in the main competition of this year’s International Film Festival in San Sebastian, which takes place from September 20 to 28. No distributor or release date yet.
