Jasia Akhtar is an Indian cricketer, famous for becoming the first female cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to be selected by Delhi Capitals for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) to be held in 2023 famous. She is a right-handed batsman and right-arm middle order bowler.

Jasia Akhtar was born on Friday, May 27, 1988 in Braripora, Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir, India (age 35; as of 2023). Her zodiac sign is Gemini. She pursued her master’s degree from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Jaisa has been interested in cricket since her childhood. She played cricket for the first time at the age of eight using her cousin’s bat. In an interview, one of her cousins recalled that Garcia used to play while everyone studied. She used to skip classes and go out to play, so she was scolded many times by her father. In an interview, she said that when she confronted her father, she told him about her passion for cricket. Her father made her a handmade bat but never gave it to her because he feared she would get injured playing with it. In 2005, she participated in the U-19 Women’s Cricket Championship in Bhopal and won Jammu and Kashmir’s first cricket gold medal in the National Schools Competition. In 2012, she represented Jammu and Kashmir in the All-North India region competition and in 2013, she represented Punjab in the competition. In 2013, she traveled to Punjab due to lack of facilities in Jammu and Kashmir. When she was in Punjab, she worked very hard and saw her coach Ranjeet Singh telling her to get into Guru Nanak Dev University so that she could start attending Interstate Championship. In 2013, while pursuing her master’s degree from Guru Nanak Dev University, she got an opportunity to play district-level cricket, where she blasted 206 runs and in the second match, she scored 65 point. After performing well in the game, she was selected by Punjab officials for the national camp and then in the state cricket team. As a member of the Punjab team, she played around 40 one-day and T20 matches. She was the best performer for Punjab team. In 2014, she represented Rupali Bank in the Dhaka Cricket League and became the first female cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to play in Bangladesh. In the competition, she played 10 games and reached the finals, but lost to Mohammedan Club. In 2022, she represented Mohammedan Sports Club in the same competition. In September 2017, she became the first female cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to be selected for the national training camp of the Indian women’s national cricket team, but was not given a chance to play. In 2019, she was selected by the Trail Blazers for the Women’s IPL Championship. In the championship, she scored 273 runs in seven games and became the second highest run-getter. In 2018, she was part of the Indian Red Women’s team competing in the 2019 Women’s Challenger Trophy One-Day Championship. In 2021, she joined the Rajasthan cricket team as captain. In 2021, she scored 501 runs in 9 matches, including 2 hundreds and a fifty in the Senior Women’s One-Day Championship. She became the top runner in the championship. - She used to travel from Shopian to Srinagar and back for practice at the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association facility at a cost of Rs 250 each time. She used to save her pocket money and start teaching tutoring to make money. She also helped her father, who was a laborer.

- She spoke about the situation of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association in an interview and said that basic equipment like bats, balls, gloves and helmets are not available there. She used to write down the key points of the national team players’ playing styles that she saw on TV because there was no one to guide them.
- She said in an interview that she had encountered many problems when playing football in her hometown. Some neighbors told her family not to let her play and instead teach her to do housework, but her family never stopped her from playing. In 2004, when she was in eighth grade, her home was attacked by armed men who threatened her family and prevented her from playing. Her family didn’t stop her at the time, but she was scared and stopped playing. Six years later, she started playing again. She said in an interview that she wanted to start a foundation for women cricketers in Kashmir so that they would not lack facilities and environment that she did not have when she was growing up.
