Javed Khan Amrohi is an Indian film and television actor, known for his roles in the Hindi films Once Upon a Time in India (2001), Andaz Apna Apna (1994) and Chak De! India (2007). He has appeared in more than 150 Bollywood films. He died in Mumbai on February 14, 2023 due to respiratory illness.

Javed started his acting career in 1973 with the Bollywood film “Jalte Badan” while still a college student.
He appeared in other Hindi films including Satyam Shivam Sundaram: Love Sublime (1978) as Shastry’s son, Meraa Ghar Mere Bachche (1985) as Ramswarup Seksaria (Newsweek photographer), Baaghi (1990) as Col Sood Servant, Andaz Apna Apna (1994) as Anand Akela and Chak De! India (2007) as Sukhlal.
His performance in the film Lagann: Once Upon a Time in India earned him a lot of appreciation and the film was nominated for an Academy Award.
In 1984, he appeared in the music video of the film “Duniya”.

Javed made his television debut in 1984 playing the role of Jhumroo (servant) in the TV series Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi.
He has also appeared in TV series including Nukkad (1986) as Karim Hajaam (the barber), Ghar Jamai (1997) as a hotel receptionist, Shaktimaan (1998) as a thief, Vishnu Puran” (2000) as Rishi Vishwamitra and “Powder” (2010) as advocate Siddiqui.
Javed’s role as a barber in the TV series Nukkad became very popular and became one of the most popular serials on Doordarshan at that time. He gained popularity in 1988 with Gulzar’s TV series Mirza Ghalib, in which he played the role of a sadhu.

Javed died on February 14, 2023, at Surya Nursing Home in suburban Mumbai, where he had been receiving treatment for respiratory problems since 2022. He died of lung failure. His death was confirmed by his fellow filmmaker Ramesh Talwar, saying:
Javid suffers from a respiratory condition and has been bedridden for the past year. He is undergoing treatment at Surya Nursing Home. He died in hospital due to double lung failure around 1 p.m. ”
Facts/Trivia
- Javed was last seen playing the role of Pakya in the film Sadak 2 (2020).
- After retiring from showbiz, he started teaching young actors at the People’s Theater Society of India. Since 1972 he has been involved with the organization as an actor, director and secretary general.
- He is also a member of the acting department at Zee TV Zee Academy of Media Arts, Mumbai.
