Jenn Tran Says 1 Man's Bachelorette Departure Left Her 'Not Feeling Good Enough' After She Decides Ex's Fate

After her ex-boyfriend Matt unexpectedly showed up in New Zealand, Jenn Tran had to make a decision on the August 5 episode Bachelor will they keep him around.

“It definitely confuses me even more now,” Jenn, 26, told host Jesse Palmer.

Jenn informed her remaining suitors of Matt’s arrival. “He wants to be with me and he wants to join this trip,” said the student physician assistant. “I mean, there’s a lot of feelings, a lot of things going on. Matt is here tonight and I need to talk to him. So I’ll be right back.”

Jenn reached out to 27-year-old Matt, who told her: “I’m just not ready to let it go.”

That left Jenn feeling “torn,” she said.

Then Matt entered the room with the other boys to inform them of Jenna’s decision.

“She let me know her future was in this room,” Matt told the men. “She is convinced that you can offer her something that I cannot, and I am only here to apologize. I’m not here to take anything away from your experience.”

The men were relieved, and Sam M. told Matt. “I’m glad you’re going to stay in the past, my boy,” said the 27-year-old contractor.

Jenn rejoined the group after Matt left and explained why she had decided to send Matt packing. They were all the right things, but the wrong guy said them, she said. “Looking around this room. I know the right guy is here.”

At the rose ceremony, Jenn gave roses to Grant, Jeremy, Jonathan, Spencer, Dylan, and Austin, meaning Thomas and John went home.

FIRST DATE ONE ON ONE

Jenn took Jonathan, 27, by helicopter for his first one-on-one date of the week. The creative director didn’t like the idea, but with Jenna’s help, he pushed it through.

“You’ve helped me get through it more than you know,” Jonathan Jenn said.

The helicopter brought the couple to the winery where Jenn and Jonathan played hide and seek and bathed in the hot tub.

Over dinner, Jenn proposed a “getting to know each other” toast, and Jonathan talked about the trust issues he had from a relationship with a woman he claimed was “self-medicating and abusing alcohol.”

“It absolutely destroyed me to the core,” Jonathan said.

Jenn understood. “I can identify with you more than you know,” she told Jonathan. “I had a toxic ex-boyfriend in the same way, who gassed me all the time and was manipulative. I think when you’re in an emotionally abusive relationship, it really wears on you.”

Jonathan also talked about growing up with a single mother, and Jenn said she could relate to that because her father abandoned her and her mom.

“I felt like, growing up, I had to put on a stronger front because if I broke down, who was going to take care of me?” Jenn said to Jonathan.

Jenn ended the date by giving Jonathan a rose.

GROUP DATE

Devin, Sam, Marcus, Spencer, Jeremy, Dylan and Austin went with Jenn to meet the shepherds and whoever the farm owners Dianne and Richard voted the most valuable farmer will win extra time with Jenn. The boys struggled to find a door through which to drive the sheep out, but eventually they figured it out and then they cut the berries off the sheep.

Dianne and Richard announced Devin, 28, as the winner, which left Austin, also 28, worried that he hadn’t spent enough time with Jenn since he was the only man who didn’t get a one-on-one or group date rose. During the afterparty, Austin decided to pull out of the race before Jenn.

“I feel like I’ve been playing catch-up the whole time. I really want to,” Austin Jenn said. “You have some amazing guys here who are willing to give you absolutely everything you deserve, and the way things have gone for me on this road, I don’t think I could.”

“What are you saying?” Jenn asked.

Austin clarified, “I’m saying I don’t think it’s fair to you and I don’t think it’s fair to the others to continue this journey with you.”

Although Jenn said she was “kind of shocked” by it, she eventually accepted Austin’s decision and sent him off.

However, Austin’s departure left Jenn guessing on her own. “Am I just doing a bad job?” she asked the cameras. “I want to be enough for someone, and it seems I wasn’t enough for Austin.”

Jenn told the other guys how she felt about Austin leaving. “I think it brought up a lot of feelings today of not feeling good enough,” she told the group, adding that she was thinking about “a future where I end up alone.”

Sam M., Marcus, 31, and Devin all comforted Jenn when they spoke to her privately, and with everyone’s support, Jenn decided she didn’t feel right giving the group date rose to just one man.

SECOND ONE ON ONE DATE

Jenn headed to Muriwai for a horse-riding date with Grant, 30. Afterwards, they were sitting outside sipping champagne when it started to rain – only for a rainbow to appear later.

Grant told Jenn that he heard about her challenging night after the group date and wanted to comfort her.

“You don’t have to be perfect with me,” day trader Jenn said. “I’m not perfect, you’re not perfect, that’s when you know it’s love.”

Grant also spoke to Jenn during the evening portion of their date about his relationship with his father, who he described as an addict for 30 years.

“He was always drunk or high on the substance, and the worst part is I didn’t know,” Grant Jenn said. “When you’re a kid, you believe everything, you know what I’m saying? The one person I trusted the most always lied.”

Grant said that at the time of the shooting, his father had been sober for almost two months. “My mission in life is to be the man my father was not,” added Grant.

Jenn told Grant how she grew up without a male role model because her father abandoned her and this led her to get into a toxic relationship with a man who rejected her by telling her things like “racism is fake and it’s all in people’s heads.”

“I encourage you to always speak your mind,” Grant Jenn said, adding, “I’m in your corner.”

Jenn gave Grant a rose after telling him she thought their discussion during that “amazing day” was “really rare and special to me.”

ROSE CEREMONY

Grant returned from his date with Jenn and told the guys that he thought he had a crush on The Bachelor. Overcome with emotion, Grant cried to Jonathan about his strong feelings for Jenn. But not all the guys appreciated Grant’s relationship milestone.

“Grant made the mood more tense and emotional,” 29-year-old Jeremy told the cameras.

Jenn decided to cut short the cocktail party and head straight to the rose ceremony, where she gave roses to Devin, Marcus, Jeremy and Spencer, 30, and sent Dylan, 24, home.
