Jeremy Renner’s Daughter Ava: Everything He’s Said About Being a Dad

The “most important person” in actor Jeremy Renner’s life is his beloved daughter, Ava Berlin Renner.

After the accident, Renner got back on his feet to spend quality time with his daughter. In May 2023, the actor shared a video of himself and Ava on the training ground. “Ava’s lesson, dad’s therapy @pingtour,” he captioned the snap.

Ava was born on March 28, 2013, weighing 7 kg. “They are beyond thrilled,” his spokesperson told PEOPLE in a statement, adding that both Pacheco and Ava are “doing great.”

Jeremy revealed more about Ava’s birth while celebrating her ninth birthday on Instagram in 2022.

“When you took your FIRST breath, gripping my finger tightly (palm reflex), I immediately understood my mandate in life as a father,” he said of that special moment. “That if I do right by you, we’ll hold hands until I take my LAST breath.”

Jeremy and Pacheco married just under a year after welcoming Ava, but filed for divorce 10 months later in December 2014, citing “irreconcilable differences.” They currently share custody of Ava.

Jeremy was in “critical but stable condition” after being run over by a snowplow (said to weigh at least 14,330 pounds) on New Year’s Day 2023. Hurt Locker the actor broke more than 30 bones and required multiple surgeries and months of physical therapy.

Just a few months after the accident, he was up and walking again, and he credits his daughter with helping him recover. “Your hugs and your love, healed me so incredibly fast,” he wrote while wishing her a happy 10th birthday on Instagram.

“It’s the most important thing in my life,” he told E! News at Cinemacon 2016 “I still don’t reveal my baby’s face, just to protect her, or anyone in my family who is underage.”

The actor adds that it is “not his decision” and that he wants to respect her opinion in the future. “You don’t have to be world famous because your dad is an ass… that’s my kid. The best thing is being a dad.”

Ava, however, has made many notable red carpet appearances with her famous father. One of them was his trip to the Oscars in 2017, where his film was shown Arrival was nominated for best film. Ava was 3 at the time and he was so excited to have his mini-me by his side for support.

On the same red carpet, Jeremy told PEOPLE that Ava has a special role on the show. “My daughter is a big part of the design on some of these, on these buses and these ideas, she’s been a big part of that story on the show, but also behind the scenes of everything,” he explained.

The experience was special because it was something they had to share. “It’s great to do something you love with people you love,” Jeremy added. “It’s like heaven for me. It is the greatest dessert. It’s, you know, the greatest thing I’ll ever do.”

Ava is the older sister

Ava became a big sister in March 2023 when her mom gave birth to another baby girl, Wylder Rayne, with retired NHL player Nathan Thompson.

“35th birthday and she is the best birthday present I could have asked for,” Pacheco wrote alongside a photo of the sweet newborn laying on her chest.

Just days later, Pacheco posted a cute video of herself cuddling with both of her daughters in bed. “It doesn’t get much better than this,” she captioned the snap.

In 2016, Jeremy said he “didn’t know” if Ava would be an actress like him, but told E! News that he will “talk her out of it”.

“I’ll never say no,” he added, but she’d rather she chose a different path. However, his daughter is “definitely artistic, for sure.”

“First and foremost, I always want him to be a kid and have a good time,” Jeremy explained.

In January 2024, the father-daughter duo filmed a Super Bowl commercial for Silk. The short clip shows Jeremy dancing, jumping and kicking around the kitchen as he prepares breakfast for Ava.
