Jerry Seinfeld Hints That ‘Something Is Going to Happen’ with Seinfeld Finale 25 Years Later

Jerry Seinfeld teases that something is up with his beloved sitcom of the same name.

Seinfeldwhich ran for nine seasons from 1989 to 1998, is still considered by many to be one of the best series of all time, and now, 25 years after its controversial finale aired, it looks like there’s more to come.

During a standup set in Boston last Saturday, the comedian, 69, was asked by someone in the audience if he “liked the ending,” according to a clip posted by a fan on Instagram.

“The end. The series? Well, I have a little secret for you about the end. But I can’t tell you because it’s a secret,” he said.

“Here’s what I’m going to tell you, okay? But you can’t tell anyone,” he continued teasingly. “Something is going to happen with that ending – it hasn’t happened yet.”

In response, the audience burst into applause and cheers.

“What you were thinking, Larry and I were thinking, so you’ll see,” he said in a clip shared by fans, referring to series co-creator Larry David, who also served as head writer and executive producer Seinfeld.

“The Finale” consisted of two episodes that originally aired in May 1998. In the episode, Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer face a legal trial in a small town after unknowingly breaking the local Good Samaritan law. The series ended with the four found guilty and sentenced to prison.

Back in September 2021, Seinfeld dismissed rumors of a possible Seinfeld of the reunion during a Netflix press conference, saying that “absolutely nothing is happening.”

Although he stated that he is a “very nostalgic person”, he said that, in general, he likes to “move forward in life”.

“I don’t know what we would do that would be good,” Seinfeld added at the time, saying the cast “wouldn’t be as good” in a reunion setting and saying he was happy with the show they produced during the original nine-season run.

“I think we did a good job,” he confirmed.

Speaking about the end of the show that same year, he recalled the moment he knew it was time to “end this”.

“I remember when I was in season nine and thinking, maybe it’s time to end this,” he told PEOPLE and other reporters at NYC’s Citi Field. “I remember calling Michael [Richards] and Julia [Louis-Dreyfus] and Jason [Alexander] into my locker room, and we were all just sitting there staring at each other,” he said. “And I said, ‘You know, I was thinking maybe this is our moment to make a good exit. We were very lucky here. Maybe we shouldn’t push our luck too much.’ And we all agreed that this is the right time.”
