Jo Koy Named as Host for 2024 Golden Globe Awards: ‘This One Is Going to Be Extra Special’

The 2024 Golden Globe Awards has found a host.

On Thursday, the Golden Globes announced that comedian Jo Koy will host the 81st awards ceremony, which will air on CBS on January 7.

Koy, 52, said in a statement: “I have stepped onto many stages around the world in my career, but this one will be extra special. I’m so excited to be hosting the Golden Globes this year. This is the moment I can make my Filipino family proud. Mahal Kita (google it)!”

“We are thrilled to have Jo host the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards and bring her infectious energy and humor to kick-off Hollywood awards season. We can’t wait to see what she has in store for the stars in the room and the global audience,” said Golden Globes President Helen Hoehne. “We know Jo brings her A-game.”

Golden Globe Nominations 2024: Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, Fantasia Barrino and many more

Koy is the first host to take over the Globes role after Dick Clark Productions and holding company Eldridge bought the rights and assets to the long-running awards show in June.

The Golden Globes were previously run by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which was founded in 1943 and has faced a number of high-profile controversies over its handling of the show in recent years. Comedian Jerrod Carmichael hosted last year’s ceremony and drew attention to the HFPA’s diversity scandal during his monologue.

The 2022 Golden Globes had no host; his former broadcast partner NBC refused to air the ceremony that year in response to the scandal. Other recent hosts include Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who co-hosted the Globes for the fourth time in 2021, and Ricky Gervais, who also served as the fourth host for the 2020 ceremony.
