Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner planned to put down permanent roots in England before they split, according to a lawsuit Turner filed in Manhattan court on Thursday, obtained by PEOPLE.
The documents claim the former couple found their “forever home” in the UK just two months before they announced their split.
Jonas Brothers singer, 34, i Game of Thrones alum, 27, had been looking for a permanent home to raise his two children — Will, 3, and another daughter referred to in previous court documents as D., 14 months — in Turner’s native country starting in December 2022. The search continued until July 2023. ., when they concluded the contract for the purchase of real estate, it is stated in the submission. In early September, Jonas officially filed for divorce after four years of marriage.

After touring a number of homes around England together, the couple eventually found a “beautiful country estate” in Oxford to use as the family’s primary residence, according to the documents.
The two were reportedly “excited about moving their family” and couldn’t wait to watch their daughters grow up in the English countryside. Contracts were exchanged between the couple and the home’s seller on July 7 with an anticipated closing date of December 2.
Jonas and Turner were “looking forward to spending the 2023 Christmas holidays with their children, family and friends in their new home in England,” according to the documents.

Jonas filed for divorce from Turner on September 5. A Miami filing obtained by PEOPLE claimed that “the marriage between the parties has been irretrievably dissolved.”
A day later, the two shared a joint post on Instagram that read: “After four wonderful years of marriage, we have jointly decided to end our marriage. There are many speculative stories as to why, but this is truly a mutual decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”

The divorce escalated on Thursday when Turner filed a lawsuit against her ex and demanded that her two daughters be returned to England. The filing calls on Jonas for the “immediate return of children wrongfully removed or wrongfully detained,” with the alleged “unjust detention” beginning on September 20.
Following the lawsuit, a rep for the musician shared a statement claiming the exes had a “cordial meeting” on Sunday to discuss how they will raise their daughters together.
“Joe and Sophie had a heart-to-heart meeting last Sunday in New York, when Sophie came to New York to be with the kids. They have been with her since that meeting. Joe’s impression of the meeting was that they had reached an agreement to work together on an amicable co-parenting arrangement.”
