John Amos Denies New Allegations of Neglect as ‘False and Unmerited’: ‘The Truth Will Come Out’ (Exclusive)

John Amos is denying reports of his daughter’s new allegations of neglect in his care.

In a statement exclusive to PEOPLE, Good times alum responded to reports of a new investigation in Los Angeles that began after his daughter Shannon told Adult Protective Services that her brother Kelly C. “KC” failed to provide adequate care for their 84-year-old father amid his ongoing health problems.

“First I want to say that I’m feeling good and working hard on the various projects I’m involved in at the moment, including documentaries that my son and I are producing, along with a music release,” says John. “I would like to add that wherever we go together, people call my son KC my twin. I’m proud of him for who he is as a person: a caring, considerate human being who respects me and I respect him.”

“Now I’ll say this for now: this story of neglect is false and undeserved,” adds John. “The real truth will soon come out and you will hear it from me. Believe.”

John Amos on current relationship with daughter he accused of elder abuse: ‘We’re still family… Bottom line’ (Exclusive)

John’s daughter Shannon previously claimed her father was a “victim of elder abuse” in June 2023. She then filed a complaint with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and created a GoFundMe campaign seeking “care expenses” for John, which was then taken down after he denied the claims.

He later claimed that his daughter was behind his “elderly abuse” and that she “took advantage” of him.

Shannon and KC have been at odds for a long time. In July, KC, 52, was arrested after allegedly threatening to kill Shannon.

According to the complaint obtained by PEOPLE, Shannon believed in “the imminence of the threat and the likelihood that it would be carried out” after KC allegedly sent her text messages with photos of firearms and gang affiliations. The alleged threat left Shannon “fearing for her life.”

In December, John told PEOPLE that “the love is still there” for his daughter despite their “bitter” relationship.

“Ultimately, I believe that family love will triumph and that God will watch over us and protect us as a family and at some point bring us back together in our harmonious relationship,” he said. “We are still a family and we love each other, and that’s the point. And all families go through trials and tribulations.”
