Kacey Musgraves “pre-grieving” her dog Pearl.
The “Happy & Sad” singer, 36, went home for Christmas to visit her family in Texas. During their time together, she also shared on her Instagram Stories that her beloved family pet was running low.
“I’ve been sad here before grieving the loss of my Pearl Girl the last few days,” Musgraves wrote in the lengthy tribute, which included text displayed over a photo of the dog lying on a dog bed in front of the fireplace.

According to the singer, Pearl is “still standing, but very close to the end.”
The seven-time Grammy winner revealed that she has had her pet for 15 years, starting with a very special birthday.

“She came to me the day after my 21st birthday and took me through so many chapters,” she continued.
Musgraves recalled how Pearl had previously lost a limb, calling the dog a “three-legged one” but noting that her parents subsequently took Pearl in “because she was no longer fit for life on the road.”
Still, Pearl never missed a beat when it came to giving and receiving love.

“They loved her completely as their own,” Musgraves said of her mother and father’s relationship with Pearl. “My dad especially liked her. She is his best friend.”

“The bond we create with these creatures is a blessing…but a ticking time bomb,” she wrote. “An inevitable continuous deposit into the bank of future sorrow. So painful, but so worth it.”
Musgraves said she gave Pearl permission “to cross that rainbow bridge” if she had to. “I’m not sure I’ll ever see her again,” she concluded.

A second Instagram Story followed, with a shot of Pearl lying down as the “Too Good to Be True” singer gently cuddles her, calling her canine companion “tough as nails.”
“She survived two catastrophic accidents… she’s missing an arm and has a rod in her hip. Maybe somehow it really will outlive us all,” Musgraves wrote.
