Kaley Cuoco’s ex-husband won a silver medal in the team show jumping event alongside teammates McLain Ward and Laura Kraut on Friday, August 2, after an allergy-related problem with another teammate’s horse.

SFGate reported that Cook, 33, had come to Paris as a substitute member of the team and had been told that he and his horse Caracole De La Roque would compete on Thursday, August 1, just hours before the first round of the event.

The athlete explained the situation in a video posted on Instagram on Friday, August 2, noting that substitutes are allowed to be subscribers until approximately 2.5 hours before the start of the competition.

“As a substitute, we did a warm-up yesterday with everyone. I prepared, we did everything as if we were showing today,” Cook said. “… My job as a deputy is to be ready no matter what.”

Cook added it around 8:40 a.m. on the first day of competition. Team USA trainer Robert Ridland told him that he and his horse were competing. The qualifying round of the competition started at 11:15 a.m. local time in Paris.

Chronicle of a horse shared Ridland’s statement about the Aug. 1 decision, referring to team member Kent Farrington and his horse Grey.

“There is a small question mark with Grey, which is related to an allergy, and erring on the side of extreme caution and with no drop in format, we made the decision to bring in Karl Cook and Caracola de la Roque,” he said, on the way out.

In his video, Cook also said that being able to represent Team USA and jump clear in the first round is “such a great moment.”

“What an amazing experience for the best team on the grid. We qualified just behind Germany in second place. Let’s finish this thing. All or nothing for gold!!” he captioned the video.
