Kane Brown's 2 Siblings: All About Heidi Swafford and CJ Cordell

Kane Brown comes from a mixed family: the country singer has a half-sister from the father’s side Heidi Swafford and a half-brother from the mother’s side CJ Cordell.

Kane spoke openly about his difficult childhood, sharing stories of growing up in unstable environments. The “Thank God” singer and his mother, Tabatha Brown, have often experienced homelessness, sometimes living out of their car, according to The New York Times. “[I] he had to grow up a lot faster than a normal person,” he told CBS News in 2022.

Living in a single-parent household, Kane’s maternal grandfather — whom he shares with his half-brother CJ — helped raise him, he told County Music Radio in 2022. “He was my only father figure because my dad was in prison since I was a child,” he said and added that his song “Pop’s last name” is about him.

Kane and his sister Heidi’s father is part black and part Cherokee, causing Kane to be confused about his racial identity as a child, he told PEOPLE in 2018. “I’m biracial; I didn’t know that until I was 7-8 years old. I thought I was completely white,” he said.

Apart from rare photos together on social networks, Kane and his siblings do not say anything about their relationship. Heidi and CJ also mostly keep their personal lives out of the public eye.

The absence of his father for most of his childhood influenced Kane to become a supportive dad himself.

When Kane and his wife, fellow musician Katelyn Jae Brown, welcomed their two children (with a third on the way!), he “always knew I was going to try to be there,” he told host Gayle King on the episode CBS Morning in 2022. “I always wanted to give them the life I never had.”
