Kate Hudson ‘Took a Full Year Off’ Men to Stop Negative Dating ‘Patterns,’ Per Therapist’s Advice

Kate Hudson once took a year off from her relationship as recommended by her therapist.

The actress (45) revealed in the last episode of the series why she decided to change. Call her dad podcast.

“I took the whole year off,” Hudson shared with host Alex Cooper. “I thought, ‘What?’ I couldn’t handle no, yeah, none of that, but it was great.”

Hudson said she decided to go through the process when she was in her “thirties.”

“I was in that place where I was, like, I don’t want to repeat any more patterns. I have a great therapist who said, ‘I can help you, but you have to do it,'” she said.

Hudson admitted that she was distracted during the process because she likes to flirt.

“Basically, I was like, OK. Well, I guess I can’t even text guys,” Hudson said, noting that she stopped giving men her number.

She explained that while the process was “weirdly empowering”, it became “very uncomfortable” after it started to affect her fashion and “wasn’t fun”.

“Because we were going through various specific types of therapy, it was really about uncovering certain things that were happening to me,” she said. “And then I had a kind of breakthrough that was very emotional that I don’t think I could have approached if I was distracted.”

Hudson said she began to “see things much more clearly” and within six months stopped worrying about things like her phone or who she was dating.

“I had absolutely no desire to do anything that had to do with the potential of, you know, flirting,” she said. “So while I was doing that, I remember a therapist saying to me a year later, ‘Okay, I think you can flirt again.’ ”

The Bride wars star said that although men started texting her again, she no longer had “the same attachment” to flirting.

Hudson felt that she single-handedly helped break up her now-fiancé, Danny Fujikawa, during that period.
