Katrina Kaif was born in Hong Kong on July 16, 1983, as Katrina Turquotte. Her hometown is London, England. Her friends call her by different names such as Kat, Katz, Katy and Sambo. She traveled a lot as a child. After she was born in Hong Kong, her family moved to different countries such as China, Japan, France, Switzerland, Poland, Belgium and many other European countries. After that, they went to Belgium and then to Hawaii. When she was 14, they moved to her mother’s native England, where they lived for more than three years. At the age of 17, she moved to India to pursue a career in modeling. In an interview, she said she had no contact with her father. Initially, she took her mother’s surname, but after moving to India, she changed her surname to her father’s because she thought Kaif would be easy to pronounce.
