Keith Urban Says Wife Nicole Kidman Didn’t Expect Her Fan-Favorite AMC Ad to Become ‘This Cultural Thing’

Keith Urban didn’t predict that Nicole Kidman’s commercial for AMC Theaters would become such a hit.

During Friday’s episode of Criss Angel’s Talking junkies podcast, the country star, 56, opened up about her wife’s 2021 commercial for the company and explained why she initially took part in it.

“She did it because she loves movies, we love movies. And those were tough times for movie theaters,” Urban said, referring to the drop in ticket sales amid the pandemic. “So AMC asked her if she would do a commercial for AMC, and it was a no-brainer for her to be a part of it.”

“Never in a million years [was she] expecting it to be a cultural thing.”

“We come to AMC Theater to laugh, to cry, to care, because we need it, all of us,” she continues in the ad. “That indescribable feeling we get when the lights go down and we go somewhere we’ve never been before — not just having fun, but kind of reborn, together.”

As for the viral nature of the ad, Kidman said GQ during an interview in 2022 that he “can’t tell you why it worked or why it went viral.”
