Keke Palmer Joins DivaGurl for New Song 'S.O.B.' After She 'Fell in Love' with the Girl Group (Exclusive)

Actress, singer, host and author Keke Palmer can now add girl group member to her stacked resume.

The Emmy winner — who goes by her middle name, Keyana — joined forces with Sadé, LaShaye and Monét of DivaGurl to bring back the sound and feel of the ’90s with their debut single, “SOB,” and PEOPLE can exclusively premiere its colorful music video .

“I heard a few songs from the DivaGurl album and I fell in love,” Palmer, 30, tells PEOPLE of how the project came about. “I was so impressed that I asked them to open for me on tour, and we even documented it for my KeyTV network.”

“These girls are stunning, their individual style is amazing and they bring that nostalgic girl group energy that the industry has been missing,” he added. not star.

“SOB,” an acronym for “stand on business,” finds Palmer confidently singing about seeking a romantic partner who understands that he already knows his own worth.

Palmer introduced each member of the group in a teaser video shared on Instagram on June 18. “DivaGurl, we represent all the different phases of a diva. I’m sultry, as you can see. Sadé is the boss,” she said.

“Obviously LaShay’s the one with the pizazz. She’s got it,” Palmer added, before noting with a hint of shadow, “I’d say Monét is presumed innocent.”

“SOB” was released in part through Palmer’s Big Bosses Entertainment label, which she launched last year with her last album, Big boss.

In May 2023, she opened up to PEOPLE about why she decided to start an independent record label after many “stifling” years signed to major labels. “I really spent a lot of those years figuring out what went wrong or why things didn’t connect with me as an artist,” the star said.

“I don’t think there’s artist development with labels. A lot of times they try to put something out and then it doesn’t work and it’s your fault. They don’t really support artists in their ability to discover how to share their voice, how to tell their story,” he continued at the time Palmer.

Elsewhere in the interview, she added: “I’m talented, I can sing, I can perform, I can do all that, but knowing how to present it to the world, that’s still an art. My experience with record companies taught me that I had to figure it out because we they couldn’t really help with that.”
