Robert Kelly Slater, born February 11, 1972, is a competitive surfer from the United States. He is best known for winning an unprecedented 11 world surfing titles.
He won it five years in a row, breaking the record held by surfer Mark Richards. He has also won numerous other titles such as ‘Boost Mobile Pro’, ‘Billabong Pro’ and ‘Rip Curl Pro’ to name a few.
This talented athlete is more than just a surfer; also enjoys music and movies. Kelly has appeared in nearly 37 films and documentaries, including, to name a few, ‘Surf’s Up,’ ‘Endless Summer II,’ ‘Down the Barrel,’ and ‘Fighting Fear.’ He is also known for his brief appearance in the popular television show ‘Baywatch’.

Kelly Slater Childhood
Kelly grew up in Cocoa Beach, Florida, where he currently lives. His parents are Judy Moriarity and Stephen Slater and he has two siblings named Sean and Stephen.
Slater grew up near the water as the son of a bait shop owner and started surfing at the age of five. By the age of ten, he was winning competitions in age categories all over the Atlantic coast. In addition, he won his first United States age division championship in 1984.
Two years later, the surfer finished third in the junior category at the World Amateur Championship in England. The following year, he also won the Pacific Cup junior championship in Australia.
Career
By 1990, the adolescent surfer had proven his mettle in the sport. He started appearing in surfing magazines. Since then he was supported by famous surfing companies such as ‘Quicksilver’, until he signed a contract with ‘Kering’.
In the same year, he won the California competition ‘Body Glove Surfbout’. Two years later, in 1992, he won the ‘Association of Surfing Professionals (‘ASP’) World Tour.

Slater became the all-time leader in career event wins when he won the 2007 Boost Mobile Pro event at Lower Trestles near San Clemente, California.
