Kidnapped Idaho Baby, 10 Months, Found Dead Near Naked Father on Side of the Road Days After Mom’s Death

An Idaho man named a suspect in the death of his wife and the disappearance of their child was found naked on the side of the road near his dead child this week by police, authorities said.

On Saturday, the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that Jeremy Albert Best was found in a sleeping bag on the side of the road east of Idaho Falls after making “strange statements” earlier that morning.

A group of hunters reported him to authorities, before sheriff’s deputies identified him as the same man wanted by the Teton County Sheriff’s Office, police said.

At the scene, authorities found Best’s black Chevy SUV down an embankment, as well as his 10-month-old child, Zeke Best, who was found dead at the scene, authorities said in a statement.

Best was then placed in a patrol car, treated for his injuries by Idaho Falls EMS, and has since been booked into the Bonneville County Jail on an outstanding warrant.

Bonneville County detectives, Idaho State Police and the Teton County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating, with assistance from Idaho Falls police detectives and the FBI, authorities said.

“Best will remain in jail pending arraignment,” the sheriff’s office said. “Our thoughts are with the families of the victims involved in this case. Additional information regarding this case will be made available at an appropriate time in the future as the investigation is still ongoing.”

Best’s arrest came two days after his wife, Kali Jean Randall, was found unresponsive at their home by Teton County deputies Thursday. Her death is being investigated as a homicide after authorities initially received a call when a dispatcher heard “interference” on the line.

Best was named as a suspect in her death, as well as the alleged abduction of baby Bunny. Authorities issued an Amber Alert for the newborn at the time.

“She was an absolutely beautiful soul,” Kala’s brother Brian Randall told PEOPLE earlier this week of the artist, who previously worked as a veterinary technician.

Brian confirmed that Kali and Best met in 2009. The brother added that he saw Best as a “normal guy” and was unaware of any conflicts between the pair.

“Sometimes you might not know people,” he said.
