Kourtney Kardashian Says ‘Generational’ Personal ‘Trauma’ Stems from Being ‘Inside’ Mom Kris and Grandma MJ

Kourtney Kardashian Barker won’t shy away from taking the plunge — even if it makes those around her uncomfortable.

In Thursday’s episode The KardashiansThe 44-year-old Poosha founder mentioned how her mom Kris Jenner is a “massive control freak” and began to wonder why she is like that.

“What is it about you that makes you need to be so controlling?” Kourtney asked as she sat next to mom and sister Khloé Kardashian. “Do you ever wonder about yourself why you control yourself so much?”

Khloé (39) pointed out that Kris will not change, especially at 68, and suggested that Kourtney simply “accept” the way she is.

“You weren’t like that when you were in your 20s, but you also had a husband who was leading the way, and now you’re leading the way,” Kourtney told her mom. “There is, you can return to your feminine energy whenever you want.”

Kris dismissed her daughter’s fight and said she’s in “heaven” when she’s with boyfriend Corey Gamble. However, Kourtney clarified that female energy is all about “taking care of yourself, no overthinking, no overdoing it,” and went on to ask her mom if she’s going to therapy.

Kris then changed the subject to point out Kourtney’s dimple, while Khloé joked in the confessional: “God bless Kourtney for trying to have a therapy conversation, and God bless my mom because she definitely isn’t.”

Back on topic, Kourtney opened up to her mom and sister about how going to therapy changed her way of thinking about generational trauma.

“You know how true it is [Thompson] she’s got eggs in her body right now?” Khloé asked, referring to her and Tristan Thompson’s 5-year-old daughter. “She had them in her when she was in your body.”

“She was into you when you were into mommy,” Kourtney continued. “So [Grandma] MJ’s trauma and Nonna’s trauma are in me, and in you, because she was in mom. Because mom was in their body.”

Taken aback by her sister’s train of thought, Khloé asked, “It’s generational trauma? We’re basing medical advice on TikTok?”

In the confessional, Kourtney further explained the matter. “I didn’t start the journey of self-awareness knowing what I was doing. I started therapy through a toxic relationship and then learned so much about myself, about my family, about why I do certain things, about our childhood wounds, about how they play out in intimate relationships, generational trauma.”

Kourtney clarified to Khloé, “It’s like their traumas are being carried over, but it’s within a lot of things that we have inside of us.”

The Good American founder was not convinced by her sister and simply stated, “No offense or anything, but why don’t people [say]’We all have problems, just buckle up and let’s go?'”

Kourtney then insisted: “There are certain patterns that need to be broken if you don’t want to pass things on to your kids.”

“You think choosing bad mates is a genetic thing?” Khloé asked, to which Kourtney replied, “I think it’s generational, from MJ.”

This prompted Kris to chime in, insisting that her mum had “picked a great partner with the Pope”. But Kourtney denied the claim, saying: “She’s been married three times… we’ve all picked people that we thought we could change different things about and we couldn’t.”

Like Khloé, Kris wasn’t entirely convinced, telling her daughter, “I have a very full, fantastic life. Why am I going back to reimagine it?”

Kourtney once again insisted, “It’s only if you want to change certain ways. When I started therapy… someone said, ‘You’re in a toxic relationship, you need to go to therapy.'”

After Kris changed the subject once again to point out Kourtney’s eyebrows, Kourtney dropped the subject. “Anyway, therapy isn’t for everyone,” she told her mom and sister.

Despite her best efforts, Kourtney noted in the confessional that what she was saying ended up resonating with her mother.

“My mom tries to change the subject or not face these kinds of topics, but it really creeps in,” she explained. “After that, he sends me a video where he says, ‘There’s always one daughter in the family who does things her way and heals all the family’s generational traumas,’ and I said, ‘OK, you listened!’

As fans know, Kourtney has been an ardent advocate of going to therapy for years. In March 2020, it opened for Health about her struggle with anxiety, revealing that she has been going to therapy for the past three years.

“I go to a double session once a week,” she said. “I look forward to every week! Having that awareness, I find I can almost catch things before they become a bigger deal.”

“When those tough moments happen, I think, ‘What lesson should I learn?'” she continued. “My training is also key. And I go to church once a week, if I can.”
