“Stewart’s profound acting work exemplified the bold, risky storytelling that Sundance has championed for many years,” said a press release, noting her 2022 Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Princess Diana in Spencer.

Sundance also noted that 10 films featuring Stewart’s work have screened at the festival over the years, including her 2017 directorial debut short. Come swim.

“Sundance’s purity, lack of fussy pretensions and its commitment to supporting independence in an industry that doesn’t always value the radical or the marginalized is what makes it by far the most enjoyable place for me to go to see, discuss and present films,” Stewart said in a statement. “I am truly honored to be recognized by this beloved institution.”
