Lainey Wilson put on her first pair of bell bottoms when she was just a “little girl”. Then, when she moved to Nashville in 2011, super-flared pants found their way back into her closet (ironically during the year of jeggings) — and this time for good.
The rest, she says, is history.
“In a few years [to her music career]I realized very quickly that as a decent singer-songwriter that is not enough. I needed to do something that would stand out and set me apart,” she tells PEOPLE about her jewelry collaboration with Kendra Scott.
She then vowed to wear bells “every day,” which she plans to continue doing for the rest of her life, even in old age (“I’ll probably be 90 and still be wearing bells—I don’t think anyone’s ever seen my ankles!” she joked in her PEOPLE StyleWatch Summer 2023 cover story).

Over the years we’ve seen country star and Yellowstone actress, find new ways to style your bell bottoms.
Flared, patterned, made of leather, fitted into a tailored suit – you name it – she’s experimented with just about every style in the sun. She even wore a pair of rhinestones when she played Hannah Montana (a performance she had before her big break) when she paid tribute to Disney Legend Miley Cyrus on August 11th.
“What can I do that’s still true to me that makes me feel like I can really do anything and walk somewhere with confidence?” is what goes through her mind when she puts on her favorite pair of pants—even when she knows she might get some unwanted opinions.

“There were times when people looked at me crazy, thinking, ‘What the hell are you doing? You look like you stepped out of the ’70s.’ But I kept doing it because I believed that eventually something would stick to the wall.”
– At the end of the day, I won’t say that I won’t wear anything, because who knows? Wilson responded when asked if there was anything out there that would never try. “A lot of people have never seen me in a dress,” he adds.
However, there is one exception. “You’re not going to see me in skinny jeans,” says Wilson, who actually wore tight pants “a lot” until she turned them into flared pants in true Lainey fashion.
