For Lil Nas X, the show must go on.
The Grammy-winning “Old Town Road” crooner, 24, made a clean appearance Saturday at the world premiere of his documentary Lil Nas X: Long live Monterowhich was delayed half an hour due to a bomb threat, PEOPLE can confirm.
Lil Nas X walked the red carpet without incident, attended a screening at Toronto’s Roy Thomson Theater and participated in a Q&A with the filmmakers afterward. He remained in a good mood all the time.
After the event, a representative of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), which hosted the premiere, confirmed the threat. He reported for the first time Diversity.

“Earlier this evening, Toronto Police made us aware of an investigation near the red carpet screening of Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero,” a rep said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE.
“To our knowledge, this was a general threat and was not directed at the film or the artist,” the statement continued.

The representative added that “standard security measures” were implemented before the start of the screening. A Toronto police spokesman said no charges had been filed and they had no further information.
Although Diversity reported that the threat was made by a “homophobic caller” targeting an openly queer performer, a TIFF representative could not confirm that information.

A shirtless Lil Nas X hit the red carpet just before 10pm local time, where he spoke to reporters about the behind-the-scenes concert film of his Long Live Montero tour.
Footage in the film shows him rehearsing, hanging out with his big, rowdy family and meeting Madonna.
Lil Nas X said he hopes viewers “take some reality out of it because I’m always joking and trolling 24/7,” adding, “I hope they get a real side of me and I hope they like it.”

At the screening, the rapper sat in the audience smiling and laughing, and even got up from his seat at one point. When Deniece Williams’ song “Free,” which appears in the film, played, the performer clapped enthusiastically.
Afterwards, Lil Nas X participated in a conversation with directors Carlos López Estrada and Zac Emanuel. He told the crowd that he hopes to expand into other genres of music, saying, “I want to do something like folk music. What else do I want to do? Like, like, like Brazilian funk.”
Directing is also on his agenda. “Something is going to happen,” he said.
Lil Nas X’s overall message — which is consistent with one of the themes of the documentary — is to take risks. “If you’re afraid to do something, you probably should,” he told the crowd. “Like many times, when you feel stuck in life, do what you fear most.”
