Lin Laishram was born on Thursday, December 19, 1985 as Linthoingambi Laishram (37 years old; as of 2022) in Imphal, Manipur. Her zodiac sign is Sagittarius. When she was in college, one of her professors changed her name to Lin because some of her non-Manipuri friends found her pronunciation difficult. She initially attended school in Manipur and later moved to Mumbai. She pursued BA in Sociology from Sophia College, Mumbai. She was interested in sports from a young age and therefore took up archery training at the Tata Archery Academy in Jamshedpur. After a chronic injury while archery, she began modeling and took acting classes at the Stella Adler Acting Studio in New York. She struggled while doing theater in New York and had to work as a waitress to support herself.

- Lin’s parents were not very supportive of her career choice when she was young. As a child, she entered a dance school, but her parents withdrew her and asked her to make her studies her first priority. Growing up, she didn’t have many actors or models from Manipur to look up to, as the profession wasn’t taken seriously by people in her region.
- Her father was the president of Manipur Archery Association and he inspired her to take up sports. Lin started learning archery and trained at the Tata Archery Academy in Jamshedpur. In 1998, she became the National Junior Champion and Sportsperson of the Year at the National Championships in Chandigarh.
- In 2020, she starred in the movie “Axone” in which all the actors were from Northeast China. She said in an interview that Bollywood would not cast Northeasterners in leading roles in films. In the interview, she further stated,
So far, Bollywood has not shot any story, any project with a complete cast and team from the northeastern states of India. Mainland people must understand us. We have to know more about the Indian continent. Countries need interaction and cultural exchanges. Before me, no actress from Manipur had come out and become a part of Bollywood. “
- In 2021, she openly stated in an interview that Mary Kom’s role in the biopic would have looked better if she was from Manipur or the Northeast. Priyanka Chopra later admitted in an interview that she didn’t look like Mary Kom. Lim appreciated Priyanka’s stance and said:
