Line of Duty and Downton Abbey stars team up with The Crown bosses for new drama – and it sounds amazing

Line of Duty actress Vicky McClure is set to star in Paramount’s upcoming original drama +, Insomniawhich will premiere in 2023.

Vicky will play successful career woman Emma Averill, who fears she may go mad when her “hard-earned dream life starts to turn into a nightmare”.

The actress will star alongside Downton Abbey and Gold star Tom Cullen, who is set to play Emma’s beloved husband Robert.

In the meantime, The Walk-InLeanne Best plays Emma’s estranged sister Phoebe and Hysteria actress Corinna Marlowe portrays Emma’s mother, Patricia.

The main cast is rounded out by Smylie Bradwell (Wisting) and India Fowler (Infidels) as Emma and Robert’s children, Will and Chloe.

Dominic Tighe (Doubt) and Jade Harrison (Wedding season) also appear as Emma and Robert’s close friends Julian and Michelle Simpson, with Lyndsey Marshal ( Inside Man ) playing Emma’s friend Caroline, Robert Gilbert (Killing Eve) as Faisal and Michelle Bonnard (Unforgotten) as DI Hildreth.

The full synopsis reads: “A few weeks before her 40th birthday, Emma stops sleeping – just as her mother did shortly before she suffered a violent psychotic breakdown on the night of her own 40th birthday.

“Emma’s mother always told her that she would follow the same path, that she had the same ‘bad blood’, and now Emma is terrified that it is true.

“As events worsen, Emma’s world begins to unravel and she realizes that only by exploring the truth about her painful past can she find answers to her present and prevent tragedy from happening again.”

The six-part adaptation series is a thriller novel by Sarah Pinborough, who is adapting her work for the screen.

The drama comes from The Crown producers, Left Bank Pictures, in association with Vicky McClure’s Build Your Own Films.

At the helm as director is Börkur Sigthorsson (Cowards of Midwich), joined Andy Harries, Jessica Burdett, Tim Bricknell and Pinborough as executive producers, while Charlotte Essex is producing. The series will be distributed by Sony Pictures Television.

Vicky said of the drama: “Myself and BYO Films are very excited to be working with Left Bank on Insomnia.

Vicky is perhaps best known for her role as Kate Fleming in the hit BBC police drama, Duty service. The series, which premiered in 2012, follows the investigations of AC-12, a controversial police anti-corruption unit.
