Love is blindTim Godbee speaks out after breaking up with fiancee Alex Byrd.
Things fell apart for the couple in the final batch of episodes of Season 7 after Alex took a nap after meeting her family and Tim found her actions disrespectful. Their disagreement quickly escalated when it was revealed that they disagreed on expectations from the relationship.
Tim, 33, then confirmed that he did not want to marry someone like Alex, 33, and that he never wanted to see her again, before leaving their flat and calling off the engagement.
With their breakup now out in the open for the world to see — and many shocked by the way it all unfolded — Tim took to social media to address the split and give his side of the situation.
“When love, authenticity, and respect are constantly met with a lack of effort, constant opposition, and a lack of respect for your physical and mental space, it must be met with firm and unmistakable terms,” he wrote in an Oct. 16 Instagram post. “Much has been left out of our story, some of it in an attempt to protect something I once held dear.”

“I’m far from a perfect person. I make mistakes and fall short of glory just as often as anyone else. I don’t expect everyone to like or agree with what I have to say, but I have to show a certain amount of respect for myself and my family if it’s not given by others ,” he continued. “Meet people where they are.”

Noting that he’s “never argued with someone as consistently as I have with this experience,” Tim claimed he did his “best” to keep most of their disagreements “off camera.”
“Through hours of difficult conversations unseen, I made the decision to remove myself from what felt like a toxic situation where I was being manipulated and my partner was not making any serious effort,” the web content strategist wrote. “I really believe that someone has shown the same behavior towards the partner and the sexes [were] conversely, the conversation around our story would be completely different.”
The team said they are not speaking out on social media to “be a victim,” but to “point out the lack of responsibility and honest self-reflection that needs to be done when you subject someone to such consistently vicious treatment, let alone someone you claim to love.”

He concluded his note by speaking directly to those who insisted he stay with Alex and “continue to give my best to a situation that has drained me emotionally and mentally, while my extended family is being shown the same lack of intent.”
“I don’t apologize,” he wrote. “I hate that my attempt to find love has ended in a situation where I can’t even be friends with the person I loved because we live in what seems like two different realities.”
Tim also took a stand against accusations of how he is portrayed, writing, “To be labeled as angry or controlling is a projection of all the stereotypes I have to work against because of how I was born into this world.”

“I wasn’t looking forward to reliving this. There’s nothing more to say. There’s nothing more to talk about,” he added. “Do the work. Be better. Grow. Move in peace, but always be ready to defend yourself and those you love.”
In the caption of his post, Tim thanked fans for their support during this time and wrote: “I hate it [this] had to be my story and will forever have to be associated with my name, but I am still grateful for the experience, the opportunity and the things it showed me about myself. It is what it is.”
“I know when to remove something that is negatively present in my life. I will continue to think about myself more than others and try to live life as honorably as I can according to the principles I was raised to follow. Continue to enjoy my joy ☯️ 🎯#woofwoof @loveisblindnetflix” , he concluded.

Alex also spoke with Today about their breakup and insisted she was blindsided, especially since it happened just two days after Tim asked her father for his blessing to marry her.
“Honestly, I don’t know [what happened]. I wish I could give you an answer today… It threw me off,” she said. “I literally thought we were going to go all the way. There was really no doubt in my mind. In my previous relationship, couples would argue, they wouldn’t agree on everything. So I didn’t really think our problems would ever be too great to not go all the way.”
Speaking about her father’s reaction to their split, she added: “He was really devastated. To this day he doesn’t like Tim. He didn’t like it [Tim] went through that whole process. He looked at the letter [that Tim wrote to him]because my dad still has the letter. He sees it as if everything is just a lie. He read it again and asked himself, ‘Is any of this true?'”
