Machine Gun Kelly on His Relationship with His Late Father: 'I Was Really Inspired by How Emotional He Was'

Machine Gun Kelly opens up about his past.

During an appearance on Bunnie Xo’s Stupid blonde podcast on Monday, Aug. 5, the “Forget Me Too” musician, 34, opened up about his late father and how his “emotional side” comes from him.

“In my situation with my father, he was so tortured by some of the craziest s— that I can imagine a child going through,” MGK (whose real name is Colson Baker) told Bunnie.

The musician/actor then explained how his father was tried at the age of 9 for the murder of his own father.

“The story they always told me was that their dad dropped the gun and his head basically blew off. It all happened in the room with my dad at the age of 9. So he and my grandmother were tried for murder. Both were released,” MGK explained.

He explained that he would get mad at his father because he would “lick” when he heard a loud noise. “I’d say, ‘You should be a man, man. Why are you behaving like that?’ and that’s why I hated him,” MGK said.

As he described his mother’s side of the family as “stoic,” Bird box star revealed that his father helped him discover his feelings.

“I get the emotional side of things from my father, who was very, you know, wore everything on his sleeve,” MGK told the host, 44. “His depression was very obvious; his need for love was very great [obvious]. I wish I could have told him before he died that I was really inspired by how emotional he was. I thought that was really cool looking back because I’m very emotional myself.”

He added that this is probably also because his “chart is so Pisces”.

MGK then explained that the release date of his album is 2019 Hotel Diablo it was also the day his father died, which “trips me”.

“The doctors said my dad wouldn’t be here in a year and then a year to the date he died,” the “Emo Girl” artist said.

Elsewhere in the podcast, MGK opened up about his struggles with mental health and alcohol abuse, revealing that he is now “completely sober from everything.”

“I don’t drink anymore. I haven’t since last August,” he said. “That’s when I went to rehab for the first time.”

MGK said he previously abused alcohol, marijuana and pills such as hydrocodone, Percocet and Vyvanse.
