Mali aka Maalavika Manoj is an Indian singer, songwriter and composer and a famous pop artist. She has collaborated with many famous names like AR Rahman, Sofia Ashraf and many others. Mali has many singles and several albums to her credit and is a well-known Indian name in the English music genre.

Mali was born on Wednesday, September 15, 1993, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India (30 years old as of 2023). Her zodiac sign is Virgo. She grew up in Tamil society and was nicknamed “Mali”.
Mali was educated at Lady Andal School (1997-2001) and Sacred Heart Preparatory School (2001-2010), Kaiyuni, Tamil Nadu. She attended Loyola College, Chennai, where she pursued a bachelor’s degree in business administration. To this end, she studied at the IÉSEG Management School in France for one year (mid-2013) and obtained a degree in Business Administration/Management. After leaving France, she returned to Chennai and obtained her graduation degree from Loyola College. Thereafter, Mali migrated to Mumbai hoping to try music as a career.
Mari’s parents were avid music listeners. They would listen to songs from the 1970s and 1980s, which made her fall in love with music. Her family gatherings were usually filled with singing and her grandfather played the harmonica. He also introduced her to jazz.
Later, Mali listened to a lot of electronic music. When she was 5 years old, her parents enrolled her in different art classes such as Bharatanatyam, painting, swimming and piano lessons; however, she insisted on taking piano lessons and gave up other classes. Mali started making music when she was 16 years old. Seventeen years later, Mali signed up for guitar classes.

Mali’s songs combine iconic pop music from the 1960s and 1970s (The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Bee Gees, Fleetwood Mac, etc.) with indie and electronic pop styles from the 1980s and beyond. Her music career started when she formed “Bass-in-Bridge” for the Chennai Live Band Search Competition sponsored by Radio Chennai. As the lead singer of the band, Mali became famous after “Bass-in-Bridge” was a finalist in the competition. After performing in various bars, events and festivals, the band disbanded in 2011.
In 2012, Mali’s first film song “Come On Girls” was released, composed by Anirudh Ravichander. She appeared in several songs and performed in different places until the release of her debut album “Deceptive” (6 songs from Band-in-Bridge) in 2013. Now she has chosen her stage name “Mali”.
From 2012 to 2016, she sang some Tamil film songs and worked as a live performer for famous bands and launches until she released her single “Dreaming”. - The first song Mali sang was “500 Miles.”
