Mama June Admits to Lying About Kids’ Money as Alana Accuses Her of Prioritizing Husband’s Jewelry Over College Fund

Mama June Shannon has something to answer for in the eyes of her children.

In the episode from Friday Mama June: Family crisisreality star, 44, refused to help her daughter, Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, with her school fees after explaining that she is still in the process of “rebuilding her life” after spending most of her savings to fund her past addiction drugs.

Admitting she wasn’t going to “lie and sugar coat the f—“, the Shannon family matriarch revealed she wasn’t in a position to even help her youngest daughter with half her school fees and asked if Alana, 18, was serious about attending school and “pushed” her education “to the end”.

“If I didn’t care about you and if I didn’t care about you succeeding and doing the things you want, I wouldn’t be saying this,” she said, doubting that Alana was committed to college.

When Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird pointed out that Alana would only need help paying for her first semester to enroll, Mama June noted that she had a Coogan account, a trust that parents of celebrity children are legally required to deposit their earnings into. However, Alana will not be able to access the funds until she is 21 years old.

Alana then asked her mother if she could withdraw the money on her behalf and mum June claimed she did not have permission to access the account but promised to call the bank to find out the details.

After sharing their thoughts about “mom not wanting me to go” to college, Alana and Lauryn left their mother’s home, but they couldn’t help but feel “something was wrong” with mom June’s rejection. Lauryn, 24, also claimed she’s “just avoiding all motherly duties for Alana.”

“Not even with a dollar,” Alana sighed on the drive home. “Maybe she thinks she’s paying [her husband] Justin’s chains or something is more important than giving it to me for college. She’s stingy when it comes to money.”

As the conversation progressed, mum June admitted she had a confession to make when it came to the funds in Alana’s Coogan account.

“The truth should be known, Pumpkin might be angry and I’m sorry, and the world might be angry and think I’m the worst person ever,” she began. “I’ve lied to my kids over the years. I’ve lied to them and told them you can’t get your money until you’re 21 so they don’t blow it.”

“It’s smart to do it that way, Junebug, but at the end of the day it’s one of those life lessons she’s going to have to learn,” Justin said reacting to the news.
