Mangesh Kashyap started serving in the Delhi Police on May 1, 1995 as an Officer of the Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Service (DANIPS) 1995 batch. In 2009, he was appointed to the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre. He served as deputy commissioner of police in Delhi. On July 4, 2016, he was appointed as the Chief Vigilance Officer of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation. Prior to this, he served as Deputy Commissioner, Economic Defense Wing (EOW), Delhi Police. Later, he became Deputy Commissioner, TRG, Police Security, New Delhi. In 2023, when Kashyap was serving as DCP-RP Bhawan. After promotion, he was transferred as Deputy Security Superintendent of Police, Delhi Police.

- In an interview, while sharing his fondest memories as a civil servant, he said:
There are many more wonderful memories like this. However, my fondest memory is from the days when I first solved a very sensational case. Three people, including the school principal, were murdered. The principal was killed in front of the entire class. There was a lot of shouting and crying. I managed to catch the culprit. It was a rewarding experience. “
- He is a skilled pianist and enjoys playing Hindi songs on the piano in his spare time.
- In 2013, the Supreme Court had disapproved of the affidavit of Deputy Commissioner of Police Mangesh Kashyap, in which he claimed that providing security to individuals in higher positions enabled them to take “daring actions” and a just decision”. The court stated,

- In 2016, a tug-of-war broke out between the AAP and the BJP-controlled MCD over the assignment after the AAP refused to accept the Union Home Ministry’s order to appoint Mangesh Kashyap (DANIPS 1995 batch) as CVO of the SDMC. Kashyap is an appointee from the BJP-controlled MCD. The Arvind Kejriwal government has proposed the appointment of 1997-batch IPS officer Bhajani Ram Meena. However, the South Delhi Municipal Cooperative Society has rejected the Delhi government’s order appointing BR Meena as the chief vigilance officer (CVO) of the civic body. Kashyap assumed the charge of CVO on July 4, 2016, after obtaining permission from the CVC.
