Margot Robbie Says It Was Her Idea to Go Nude in Wolf of Wall Street, Over Martin Scorsese's Original Plan

What Margot Robbie says is true.

In a recent episode Pictures that speak podcast shared last week, the Barbie The 34-year-old actress recalled the role that changed her career a little more than ten years ago.

She stars as Naomi Lapaglia opposite Leonardo DiCaprio (Jordan Belfort) in the 2013 film directed by Martin Scorsese. The Wolf of Wall StreetRobbie decided she wanted to take more risks with her character.

“That’s not what she would do in that scene,” she said of Lapaglia originally going out in a robe in an attempt to seduce her soon-to-be-ex-husband. “The thing is, he’s going to come out completely naked – that’s the card he’s playing.”

In the film, based on Belfort’s 2007 memoir of the same name, Robbie plays the wife of a former stockbroker and convicted felon.

During the podcast, the Oscar-nominated actress also recalled her last audition before landing the role of Lapaglia — admitting she was sure she bombed after improvising and slapping DiCaprio, 50, instead of having a more intimate moment.

“I thought I could kiss Leonardo DiCaprio right now and that would be great. I can’t wait to tell all my friends about this,” said Robbie. “And then I thought, ‘No.’ And just punched him in the face.”

She said the reaction was “dead silence for what seemed like an eternity”, admitting that in reality it “lasted probably three seconds”.

“Then they just burst out laughing. Leo and Marty laughed so hard they said, ‘That was great.’ I was thinking, I’m going to be arrested, I’m pretty sure it’s assault, injury,” Robbie said.

The Suicide Squad the actress recalled thinking of all the different ways she could get in trouble for taking the audition into her own hands.

“Not only will you never work again, you’ll actually go to jail for this, idiot. And why did you have to hit him so hard? You should have made it easier,’ she recalled thinking.

Robbie has also previously spoken about other ways she has been able to use her character, including listening Titanic soundtrack before emotional scenes.

Speaking with Diversity in an interview published on November 12 before her Pictures that speak episode, Robbie recalled the “surreal” moment when the two main stars of the 1997 film were in the room next to her as she prepared for her scene.

“There was a big, crazy scene after I filed for divorce and all that. And Kate Winslet came to visit the set, to visit Leo that day,” Robbie said. “I was in the room next to them, listening to them Titanic the soundtrack tries to stay in sad, weepy mode. And then I saw Kate Winslet and Leo walking by. It was very surreal.”
