Mark Ruffalo Worried He Was ‘Too Old’ for His Poor Things Sex Scenes: ‘Does Anyone Want to See That?’

Mark Ruffalo bares all – including his reluctance to bare all.

For Perfect Magazinethe Oscar-nominated actor posed for photos and discussed his work in Poor peoplein which he plays the kickass Duncan Wedderburn.

“I didn’t know if I could pull this off,” Ruffalo, 56, told the magazine, which was revealed in the first Perfect MagazineTwo Instagram posts about the collaboration released on Monday. “I’ve never done anything like that [Poor Things] ago.”

In the cover image by photographer Willy Vanderperre, the Marvel star appears naked, shot from the waist up while lying on the ground.

Ruffalo, who was 55 at the time of the interview, also mentioned his age. “So the sex scenes,” he said of starring opposite Emma Stone in the film. “Am I too old to do such things? Does anyone want to see it?”

Poor peopledirected by Yorgos Lanthimos and written by Tony McNamara as their sequel Favorite, Stone stars as Bella Baxter, a grown woman resurrected with the brain of her unborn child. As she matures unnaturally fast, her discovery of womanhood includes plenty of uninhibited sex—including with Wedderburn, a lecherous barrister.

The film, based on Alasdair Gray’s 1992 novel, became an awards contender of the season. Stone, 35, won the Critics Choice award for lead actress on Sunday after winning at the Golden Globes on Jan. 7, where the film also took the statuette for musical or comedy.

Also in Ruffalo’s “extensive interview with Perfect,” according to another Instagram post — which includes an apparent shot of his bare torso — the actor discussed politics, social media and the portrayal of sex on screen.

“I feel like we’re in this wild time for movies,” he said. “Sexuality is so deeply connected to the psychology of the character. And it should be investigated in that sense as well.”

Ruffalo himself approved of his risque display, commenting on the latter gallery on Instagram shortly after it was posted, “Thanks to Willy and [interviewer Amber Later] and all the people there. You are perfection.”

“Character [had to] there’s no shame, and Emma didn’t have to be ashamed of her body, her nudity, and getting involved in those scenes, and she realized that right away,” he said of Stone, who is also among the film’s producers.

Ruffalo also had plenty of praise for his co-star, calling Stone a “once-in-a-generation talent.” Poor people‘ Premiere in New York in December.

“She’s a great talent,” he told PEOPLE at the time. “I mean, this is probably one of the bravest female performances in decades, in a sense.”
