Welcome to The Blueprint, where we take apart the celebrity looks we want to wear right now and recreate them, piece by piece.
Martha Stewart is one smart cookie – she knows that fall pants are officially back in the game.
Last week, the 83-year-old wore a pair of black faux leather trousers to an appearance at The Drew Barrymore Showwhich happens to be my favorite style of underpants. This is the second time I’ve seen her in them – the first was last October – and in the meantime, she still has the leather bottoms with the gold and silver pairs. TL;DR: Leather pants have her seal of approval, as well as mine.
She also layered a black tweed sweater over another plush top, then threw on some black ankle boots to keep with the monochromatic vibes. It looked warm, comfortable, and I’m excited to recreate the look.

Stewart probably put an oversized black sweater under her jacket because it was short-sleeved. But since I’m pretty much always cold, I might skip the layering and go for a long option like this one. It still looks very designer-inspired with chunky stitching reminiscent of tweed, although it’s actually machine washable unlike the latter fabric.

I’ve owned these pants for over three years and still wear them probably once a month, which is the way more than I wear jeans this time of year. Although leather or faux leather probably doesn’t sound like a comfortable fabric and can even feel sticky and stuffy, they are far from it. These are actually my “stretch pants”. I wear them when I’ve eaten too much or I’m bloated. Heck, I even wear them on airplanes! My mom also has them, who is also a style queen.
They’re not as narrow as Stewart’s, but that’s just personal preference. The black ones are running out, and I already have them, so maybe I’ll take the burgundy or gray ones.

I like ankle boots because they go with, not against, the bulkier pant styles that are trending in the fall. Most importantly, my legs and feet don’t get as hot. These heels are about as high as I’d go for a night out or when I need more height for a dress that’s a little too long. Otherwise, I might go for something with a shorter heel like this pair with over 4100 perfect scores.
