Matthew Perry Shares Rare Photo with His Father, Actor John Bennett Perry

Matthew Perry celebrates his relationship with his father.

The Friends star, 54, shared a rare Instagram post on Sunday as he posed for a touching picture with his father, John Bennett Perry.

“Here’s me and my dad John, both holding drinks,” Matthew aptly captioned the image.

In the picture, Friends star and his father, 82, stood hand-in-hand with smiles on their faces as they both drank from clear glasses.

The upload marked Matthew’s second post since April, as just three days earlier he had shared a picture of his front lawn with the caption: “Why can Elon Musk put a woman on the moon but not invent a silent leaf blower?”

John, 82, has himself appeared in several films as an actor, including Independence Day and George of the Jungleand even joined his son on screen Fools Rush In in 1997.

He also appeared in an episode Friends. In episode 4 of season The one with Rachel’s new dressJohn played the father of Joshua, the man Rachel Jennifer Aniston dated.

Last year, Matthew told PEOPLE in a cover story that he was looking forward to becoming a father one day.

Speaking of your book, Friends, lovers and the big scary thing, which documented his journey and struggle with addiction, the actor said he used to be “afraid” of romantic relationships, but now he’s ready. “I’m not driven by the fear that I was before, so everything is kind of different,” Matthew said. “I feel more confident and I’m not afraid of love anymore, so I better watch out for the next girl I go out with.”

“I think I’d be great. I really do,” he added about what he’d be like as a father. “I grew up with a lot of young kids around me and that’s probably why, but I can’t wait.”

Matthew also has another father figure in his life Date lineKeith Morrison, who married Matthew’s mother Suzanne in 1981. Morrison opened up about his relationship with his stepson in a 2020 interview with PEOPLE.

“He’s one of those people who’s always in the center of the room for a reason and it was like that as a kid,” Morrison said at the time. “On the hockey team, I used to take him to his hockey games on Saturday mornings. It was like Matthew and the hockey team. He was the one who scored all the goals. He was the guy. Likewise on the tennis court. He was extremely, extremely good on the tennis court and very intense.”

“He’s an intense, talented, focused character. He’s very bright. That’s always been the case growing up.”
