MAX Teases Unreleased Collab with Former Nickelodeon Costar Keke Palmer: ‘One of My Favorites’ (Exclusive)

Long before MAX and Keke Palmer were platinum-selling musicians and multi-Emmy-winning actresses, the two starred opposite each other in Nickelodeon’s 2012 movie. Cloths.

More than a decade after the release of the musical TV movie, MAX (whose full name is Max Schneider) is fresh with the release of his new album Love in Stereoreflecting on his days starring alongside Palmer and even teasing an unreleased collaboration with Fraudsters a superstar who may soon fall.

“She’s been the same person the whole time I’ve known her,” MAX, 31, tells PEOPLE Palmer, 30, over lunch in New York. “Cloths it was so special because we had so much fun.”

MAX starred as a struggling musician without the support of his father in the 2012 film, a modernized take on the gender-swapped Cinderella, whose talent is recognized only by the pop sensation played by Palmer. In the end, of course, they fall in love – which was new for both actors at the time.

“I remember very vividly that it was one of the first experiences where we did something romantic, and even though it was a Nickelodeon movie, we wanted to put a lot of heart into it,” he says. “Right away we talked, ‘Let’s just cut the awkwardness and make this really special and real.'”

Such discussions were helpful for MAX and Palmer, who were both recently out of their teenage years at the time of filming. “It was one of the most memorable conversations I’ve ever had,” he recalls. “I think she had a bad experience with another movie recently before that, so I said, ‘I want us to be comfortable.'”

From the making Cloths, the couple stayed in touch. “I haven’t seen her since she became a mom, but we see each other every few years, and she’s just the best,” says “Butterflies” singer Palmer, who shares 1-year-old son Leodis “Leo” Andrellton with ex-boyfriend Darius Jackson.

They also made music together. “We have an unreleased song,” says MAX. “Maybe she’ll finally see the light of day soon because she’s one of my favorites.”

He played the collaboration for fans who attended a “super intimate” VIP gathering held in his tour bus every time he hit the road, and it was a “consistent favourite”.

The pair planned to release the song years ago, but scheduling conflicts got in the way. MAX also tried to get Palmer to star in the music video for his 2022 single “Wasabi,” but she couldn’t make it due to the premiere of her movie Not.

“Honestly, I’m getting to the point [where] I may have to put this song out on the [Love in Stereo] deluxe or something,” she teases him.

Recently, MAX has mostly kept in touch with his former co-star through his three-year-old daughter Edie Celine, his wife, and his wife Emily — who is a huge fan of Palmer, whether she knows it or not.

“My daughter loves it Light year so much,” he says of the 2022 animated film Toy story spinoff, which represents Human resources actress in the lead role.

“Also, I think there’s another Max in her mom’s phone,” jokes MAX Sharon Palmer, Keke’s mother and longtime manager. “So I get random texts from her mom all the time. [Laughs] What a gem of a man.”
