Prashanth Madhar

V Prashant Madal is an Indian Civil Servant with the Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) and is serving as the Principal Accountant of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) (till 2023). He is the son of BJP MP Maadal Virupakshappa. In March 2023, he was arrested following a raid on the office of the state-owned Karnataka State Soap and Detergents Limited (KSDL) in Lokayukta, Karnataka, where he was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh. 40 lakh for tendering for supply of raw materials to Karnataka Soap and Detergents Limited.

In 2017, while Prashanth was serving as deputy accounting officer at Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KIRDL), the bank faced financial irregularities of Rs 55 crore. In October, the Surathkal police station registered a case against Prashanth, then KRIDL chief financial officer Veeranagouda Patil and then finance director Shankarachari for misappropriation of funds. According to officials, Prashant was responsible for selecting the depository bank but violated norms while selecting the Mangaluru branch. Apparently, on August 23, 2023, Rs. 200 million was deposited at the Kulai branch of Indian Overseas Bank. A week later, an additional deposit of Rs 35 crore was made to the bank. A senior official said, “As soon as the funds were transferred out, the person concerned opened a current account. A fake deposit certificate was sent to the government and within a few days all the money disappeared.” After the FIR, Prashanth, Patil and Shankarachari were suspended and the case was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation for further investigation.

In March 2023, Prashanth Madal was arrested from Lokayutka in Karnataka for allegedly accepting bribes on behalf of his father. Apparently, Prashant demanded a bribe of Rs. Rs 80 lakh was provided to the contractor in exchange for tendering for the purchase of raw materials required for manufacturing soap and other detergents for the Karnataka State Soap and Detergents Limited (KSDL). Meanwhile, a man lodged a complaint in Lokayutka, Karnataka, accusing Madal of taking bribes. After receiving the complaint, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Lokayukta and his team laid a trap and caught Prashanth red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 40 lakh at his father’s office on Crescent Road.

During the raid, the Lokayukta recovered Rs. 1.7 billion in unaccounted cash in his father’s office and approx. Rs 22 crore was recovered from Prashanth’s office. Soon, Prashant was arrested from Lokayutta, Karnataka. Later, the Lokayukta raided Prashanth’s residence and recovered Rs. There was Rs 6.1 billion in unaccounted cash.
